PHASE 1, CHAPTER 5
Darkon stood silently in the darkened chamber, gazing upon a
crystalline-looking, liquid-filled pod. Within the pod, a vaguely
humanoid figure struggled, pushing against the walls of its
prison. Abrutly, the crystal cracked, and the figure - a
humanoid female covered in blood-red armor, and carrying a
four-meter-long, barbed spear - was released onto the floor. The
pod beside him also cracked, releasing a male figure clad in
black and gold armor and carrying a huge mace. The two kneeled
before the Tekno Warlord.
"Teknoman Spear. Teknoman Mace." Darkon said coldly. "You
now posess powers that you never dreamed possible, given to you
for the glory of our Rhadam masters. Serve them well, for
failure shall bring swift punishment."
The pair bowed their heads, and spoke in unison.
"We shall not fail, Master."

"Hey, Blade, it looks like you've got some reason to cheer
up. You've finally found a living relative who hasn't been
turned into one of Darkon's flunkies." Ringo quipped. It had
been a few hours since Blade's conversation with Nagisa, and
Ringo, Blade and Star were working out in the exercise room.
"She's cute too. Do you think maybe I'd have a chance of hooking
up with her?"
Star shot Ringo a dirty look, and then turned to Blade.
"What was she like before you went on that trip?"
"I only really met her a couple of times. She was a sweet,
kind girl, but she cried a lot, and was a real target for
bullies." replied Blade. "And now these aliens, in their
all-knowing wisdom, have decided that she's gonna be helping to
defend the planet."
The sound of Tina's voice was suddenly heard on the
comm-link.
"Blade, Star, Ringo! The commander wants to see you in the
control room."
[Control Room]
"Are the Rhadam making another attack, commander?" asked
Star.
"No, actually, we're going to be making an attack on the
enemy." the Space Knights' commander replied. "Or rather, the
military is, and they've asked for our help."
"What exactly do they have in mind?" asked Ringo.
"They believe they've located one of the Spider-Crab
birthing chambers. They're going to make a raid on it, and
hopefully reduce the Crabs' breeding capacity."
Blade thought for a couple of seconds. "Yeah, sounds good
to me, Commander, I think I'll enjoy a hit-out like that."
The communications equipment beeped, indicating that a
signal was incoming, and Tina sent it through to the screen,
producing the images of Candy and Nagisa.
"Commander Jamison, Candy's told me about the mission, and I
feel I can handle it."
Blade gasped. "Commander, you didn't ask her to..."
"It's okay, Nick. I'm going to be able to handle myself."
"Yeah, well, I'm going to make sure about that." Everyone's
eyes opened in surprise as Nami Shinma teleported in. "Iczel
told me about this little raid, and I've decided to help you out.
Especially since Kawai's out injured at the moment."
"Nami-san..." Nagisa said. "Thanks for helping us."
"Oh, and there's one more reason why I'm doing this."
stated the tall blonde. "It sounds like fun."
* * * * *
"/Sunlight/ to /Blue Earth/, we can start on our approach
vector as soon as you're ready." said Kiri over the radio. The
attack plan devised by Jamison was that Blade and the /Blue
Earth/ would punch through the attacking spider-crabs from below,
while Nagisa, Nami, and the /Sunlight/ circled around and came in
to land on the space ring from above, minimising contact with the
enemy.
" 'As soon as you're ready'? We've been holding back
waiting for you guys!" Ringo replied. Then, he caught sight of
the first wave of spider-crabs descending from the space ring.
"Hey, Blade, our crab friends have decided to send a
welcoming committee."
Blade turned and rushed into the rear section of the /Blue
Earth/.
"Pegas, POWER ON!!!!"
"Affirmative."
"Open the interlock chamber!!!"
Blade leaped into the interlock chamber, once more feeling
the Tekno energy seethe through his now-naked body, surrounding
him, penetrating him. Then, his body was covered in the armor of
a Teknoman - the only Teknoman on Earth dedicated to protecting
the planet, rather than enslaving it. Teknoman Blade stood atop
Pegas, who flew at the incoming
spider-crabs, letting him slice through the massed attackers,
several of which burst into pink slime. The /Blue Earth/
followed, its laser cannons blasting any spider-crabs which had
evaded Blade's attack. Clearing a path through their attackers,
they flew toward the space ring.
* * * * *
The /Blue Earth/ docked in one of the Space Ring's landing
bays, and Star, Ringo, Blade (returned to human form), and Pegas
exited from it. The /Sunlight/ had already pulled in, and Nagisa
Nami, and the others were standing waiting for them. Nagisa
rushed over to her cousin, and hugged him briefly before Blade
stepped backward.
"Nagisa, save it for later." A brief look of shock at
Blade's words appeared on Nagisa's face before she steeled
herself.
[LATER]
"This corridor seems more creepy as it goes on." remarked
Nagisa, glancing around nervously. The corridor in question was
pitch-black apart from where flashlights shone on the steel-gray
walls and floor, and no sound could be heard apart from the
group's footsteps. She almost wished that they were under
attack, anything to relieve the feeling of apprehension she had.
"And as it goes on, we get closer to the Spider-Crabs'
nest." Nami added. "So keep... NANI?!"
Nami's exclamation was prompted by a swarm of spider-crabs
bursting through the corridor walls just ahead of them. She and
Nagisa instantly launched a barrage of energy blasts, while Blade
transformed. Yajin, Star, Ringo and Kiri hefted laser rifles,
preparing to shoot at anything that managed to get past them.
Suddenly, the floor behind them was torn open, as another
spider-crab attacked from their rear. Ringo managed to turn
around and fire a shot, bit it was rushed and went wide. The
crab's multiple red eyes shone as it attacked...
and suddenly went dead as it was hit from behind by a barrage of
heavy-weapons fire.
"Are ye all okay there, lads and lasses?" came the call of
an Irish-accented man.
"Sergeant O'Rourke! Thanks for helping us out!" Ringo
replied.
The burly Irishman smiled. "Ah, anything for an old friend,
lad. We'll be meeting with more of those beasties before too
long, so ye'd better stay on the alert from now on."
* * * * *
A pair of armored figures flew from the moon towards Earth
and the space ring.
"So, the humans are making an attack on one of the birthing
chambers?" Spear asked. "What fools. It's doubtful our
presence will even be necessary."
"Don't be so overconfident, Spear." Axe replied. "Remember
what happened to Lance due to his arrogance. And the traitor
Blade is one of those making the assault."
"I never suggested that we abandon necessary caution."
Spear retorted. "Let alone that we take the traitor or the
Kthulhu's servants lightly."
* * * * *
"Yeah, these damn things are getting thicker all right!"
Nami said as she sliced through two of them with her beam sword.
"Keep it up, the birthing chamber should be just ahead of
us!" Came a yell of encouragement from O'Rourke.
"Yes, it is. Too bad you'll never reach it!"
Nami saw the form of a Teknoman clad in pale green armor
standing ahead of her, carrying a massive axe.
"Guys, I'll take this one." she said. Nami raised her beam
sword and flew at the enemy Teknoman.
{Nami, try to get him to go outside the space ring. You'll
be able to use your manuverability to your advantage, and the
others will be in less danger of being hit.}
{Okay, Iczel, I gotcha} The Black Iczelion teleported
behind Axe, and let him pursue her toward the airlock.
[MEANWHILE]
"Axe isn't the only one." Blade said in his solemn-as-usual
voice. "There's a second Teknoman around here."
Nagisa paused for a second. "yes, I ... I can feel him
too." she said. {Iczel, I thought that Iczelions and Teknomen
couldn't use telepathy to sense each other}
{They can't. Your sensing him is due your own psychic
abilities.}
{My ... own?}
{Hai.}
Blade turned. "Ringo, Sergeant, O'Rourke, you try and get
into the birthing chamber. Nagisa, you go on outside, I'll be
with you shortly.
Nagisa teleported to outside the space ring, near where she
felt the evil Teknoman's presence. Her gaze locked with the
baleful, red-eyed glare of the woman in blood-red armor, the
servant of a warlord determined to conquer her planet, and...
"Mizumi?" Nagisa asked. "Onee-san?"
"Nagisa Kai, I am no longer your sister. I am Teknoman
Spear, the servant of Darkon and the Rhadam, and you are the
servant of my masters' greatest enemies. You had your chance to
join us, to remain my sister, and you squandered it. It is a
choice for which you must die."
"Mizumi, no!!! That isn't you talking! I know you're not
evil! No matter what they've done to you, you're still my kind,
gentle, older sister!"
"Oh, AM I???" Spear charged Nagisa, who desperately dodged
her attack. Spear pressed the offensive, and Nagisa continued to
evade the thrusts, giving ground as she did so.
{Nagisa, why don't you fight back?}
{She's my sister! I could never hurt her!}
One of Spear's thrusts was deflected by Nagisa's hip guard,
before Nagisa felt her sister's foot slam into her stomach,
sending her backward in a tumbling motion. She managed to pull
out of her tumble, only to see Spear's shoulder guards open up,
and crimson energy begin to emnate from them.
Abruptly, Spear was hit in the side, causing her attack to
miss to Nagisa's left. Nagisa knew without looking that Blade
had arrived, and flew backward, giving her cousin more room.
Blade circled around, preparing to attack Spear once again.
* * * * *
An energy blast from Axe slammed into Nami's body, and the
Black Iczelion barely managed to hold her position.
{Shit, my forcefield's gone. I'll only be able to survive
one more hit like that ... if I'm lucky.}
"Why don't you spare yourself the pain?" Axe asked. "I can
make this quick for you."
"Why don't you go fuck yourself?"
Concentrating, Nami stretched out her hands, feeling waves
of energy flow through them. Then, she released them.
"ICZELION ... GRAAAVITYYYY!!!!!!!!"
Axe was taken by surprise by the strength of the attack. By
the time he realised its power, he was caught in it.
Desperately, he tried to escape the crushing force that trapped
him, but it was to no avail. He screamed briefly, before his
form was crushed into a small ball. Black Iczelion, almost
drained of energy, floated barely conscious nearby.
* * * * *
Something was very wrong. Nagisa looked on in stunned
silence as she watched Blade suddenly cease fighting with Spear,
and begin screaming in agony. She hadn't seen her cousin take
any hits there, and even if he had, he wouldn't have let it
distract him from his fight. For her part, spear was hovering
silently in space, observing Blade.
{Iczel, what's happening to Nick?}
{He's spent too long as a Teknoman.}
{But that means...} Nagisa suddenly comprehended what was
happening. Nick's mind was going to be invaded, taken over. He
was going to be turned into a slave of the Rhadam. Like Lance.
Like Cain. Like Mizumi.
{NO!} her mind screamed. {Nick's the only one of my family
left who's not under their control! I can't allow them to
control him.} And then, {I shall prevent it.}
Nagisa felt her state of consciousness shift. She was
wearing a cloak of red light, running through a forest of the
spore-plants which now covered much of the Earth. The spore
plants were in bloom, ready to send spores to entrap humans and
turn them into Darkon's slaves. Some spores came at her, but
they vaporised upon touching the cloak she was wearing.
Eventually, she reached a clearing in the forest. As she
entered, she laid her eyes on Nick. He was in human form, naked,
trapped inside a globe of some sort of clear liquid which was
rapidly solidifying. She thrust her arm into the liquid, trying
to grab his hand, but he pulled it away from her.
"Nagisa, it's too late for me. Save yourself."
"Nick, no! I didn't come here to save myself, I came here
to save you! And I'm not leaving until I do that!" The liquid
around Nagisa's arm became solid, and then began to turn dark.
"Think of what everyone's been fighting for! Your father,
Jamison, Star, your sister... are you going to destroy everything
they fought for?" Nagisa stretched her arm, and felt her cousin
grab it. In the moment they touched, the cloak she was wearing
turned from red to orange, and the material Blade was trapped in
shattered and fell apart. Hand in hand, they rose, flying clear
of the forest of spore trees. Then, that reality faded, and they
felt themselves once again in physical space.
* * * * *
Spear gasped in surprise. One moment, Blade had been ready
to return to Darkon's service, the next he was attacking her
again, seeming possibly stronger than before, while she herself
was tiring. She was no fool - she knew that the odds were now
against her. Turning, she fled towards the safety of the moon.
If she had turned back, she would have seen her formeer
sister speaking with Blade, pleading him not to pursue her.
* * * * *
O'Rourke fell to the floor of the birthing chamber, the
spider-crab queen standing over him. Several of his men had been
killed by this thing, and it seemed he would be next. He was
determined that no more would die. Reaching to his belt, he
grabbed a plasma grenade and pulled the pin.
The next thing he knew, he was grabbed, and carried away
from his position. O'Rourke looked, and saw that Blade had taken
him out of where he was in immediate danger, and then heard the
grenade explode, taking a large proportion of the birthing
chamber with it.
"Thanks, lad." he said to Blade. "That must have been
quite a risk, even for you."
"That doesn't take into account one of your sayings,
sergeant." Blade replied. " 'War isn't about numbers, it's
about people. Don't ever forget that'."
* * * * *
On another plane of reality, three figures were gathered,
observing the events with senses that no human possessed. On the
left, sitting with her feet in a pool of emerald water, was a
young woman with straight, wet, black hair, dressed in a pale
blue wetsuit, while on the right stood a teenaged girl with long,
pale green hair fading to yellow at the tips, dressed in a red
karate gi. The figure in the center was also a teenaged girl,
with curly green hair, wearing a yellow and pink dress, a silver
belt, blue boots, and a silver bracelet on her right wrist. She
also had wings, feathered wings colored a shining metallic blue.
"Your namesake's spirit has grown a lot stronger in a short
space of time." remarked the one on the left. "Much like your
own did."
Nagisa Kano smiled. "Actually, Paestra, her spirit *is* my
own. After the battle with Big Gold, Sestana requested that she
create a reincarnation of me." Sestana was an aspect of the
Highest Light, one of the countless incarnations it appeared in -
she was the particular incarnation worshipped by the Kthulhu, and
the one Nagisa would have been described in many texts as
serving. In actual fact, the relationships between angels and
the Highest Light was not a master-servant one, but one based on
mutual respect and trust, as was the one between Nagisa and the
less powerful angels flanking her. Nagisa herself did not use an
Earth name, "Angel" or "Tenshi" to describe them, but the name
the Kthulhu had long ago given to these beings - "Iczer".
"Iczer" was, obviously, a word that carried a very special
meaning for her.
* * * * *
"Oh, my, it looks like one of our warlords is having trouble
subjugating his target planet." The speaker was a female cyborg
with long white hair, and the left side of her face made out of
bronze-colored metal, with a red eye.
"Are you contemplating showing him how to do it, sister?"
the male cyborg beside her asked.
"Yes, Chaos. I think our masters would appreciate some help
there." Cross said calmly. Then she began to laugh maniacally.
* * * * *
"Remember, Iczer-3, when you throw somebody, throw them at
the closest hard surface. The less distance they travel, the
greater their momentum will be, and the less time they'll have to
pull out. Now, let's see you try again." Iczer-1 ran at her
younger sister, who grabbed her arm, flipped her, and sent her
crashing head-first into the floor, which ended up with a
sizeable dent in it.
"That was perfect. You're learning well, Iczer-3."
"Arigato, oneesama!"
Iczer-1, followed by her younger sister, left the exercise
room and walked to the Kthulhu ship's bridge. She needed to
receive any updates which may have occurred to the situation in
the war with the Rhadam.
"General Indigo," She said to a woman with ponytailed hair
in the color that was her namesake. "Any changes in sphere
status?"
"Khyrennia reports that they have sucessfully repulsed the
Rhadam forces from their system. Ishua is in desperate need of
aid, and cannot hold out much longer without it. We have also
detected a second Rhadam-allied force approaching Earth."
Iczer-1 frowned with worry. Earth and Ishua were the first
two planets she had sworn to protect. Both were now in dire need
of her assistance.
"We have already sent two more Iczel units to Earth." a
teenaged girl named Cyan stated. "But it is likely that any new
units sent to Ishua will be intercepted, and all nearby star
systems are still under attack."
"Then I shall go to Ishua." Iczer-1 said. "Also," she
turned to her sister, "Iczer-3, I want you to go to Earth. Meet
with Prime Iczelion Nagisa Kai - she is to guide you. Treat her
as if she was me."
"Hai, oneesama."
"Iczer-1, I request your presence." came a voice over the
communication system.
"I'll be there shortly, sister Grey."
Sister Grey was waiting calmly for Iczer-1 at the door of
the medical bay. "The reason I requested your presence,
Iczer-1..." she said, "was because our patient has regained
consciousness." The door sild open to reveal a girl aged around
sixteen human years, with curly, pale green hair and purple eyes.
"I am pleased to meet you," Iczer-1 said. "... Shara
Carter."
