I thought I covered that in my previous post. There IS NO
DIFFERENCE between the interpretations, because there doesn't
*need* to be; you can go either way from the end of the
series. You can go the way where Akane's hitting elevates into
something more deadly, or you can go the way where she stops
hitting him altogether. You don't need to interpret the series 
differently for either; it works both ways.

I think that what is meant is that the two series ascribe
different reason's for Akane's actions in the series and what
happens in the fict is a direct result of that assumption.  TiL
assumes that Akane hit Ranma because she was a short tempered, and
had low self estime in respect to her relationship with him.  BE
assumes that Akane hit Ranma because she had a pathological 
condition which caused her to experience reocuring and escalating
periods of anger and a desire to do violence.  Both assumptions
could be justified from the series, however the TiL assumption
allowed Akane to calm down once her and Ranma's relationship starts
feeling more secure to her.  The BE assumption means that absolutely
nothing could make her stop hitting Ranma unless she got specific
medical treatment.

Yes, I agree.  I do think that's what Ken is saying.  What I don't yet understand is what, exactly is wrong with that, and why that would have a negative impact on my story.
