Chapter Four

Cassius cast about searching the streets for that special
something. As he walked down the streets aimlessly, he looked for the
inexplicable thing that would jumpstart his mind. For odd reasons, he was
a bit unsure of where to start. Normally his mind would be reeling at the
possibilities, but his failure at controlling the warmonger Aries dampened
his creative process.
"Excuse me, sir," a voice said.
Cassius, surprised at hearing it, but not being bumped into, cast
about for the source of the voice. He saw a man with long black hair,
brushing off his white robes. The man was bowing profusely and
apologizing to a lamppost. His glasses, fixed on his forehead seemed to
be the source of his problems.
"Young man, if you'd wear your glasses more often, you wouldn't
have such problems," Cassius remarked. The boy spouted an extremely high
aura, and a neutral aura at that. He hadn't become aligned with any
clans. Cassius's mind immediately shifted into high gear, a plan
formulating immediately.
"I know, sir," came the response, "but I seem to have misplaced
them."
	Cassius laughed politely.
"They're on your forehead. I know how you feel. Sometimes I
forget them there as well. What is your name, my good man?"
	"Mousse," came the hesitant reply.
Cassius extended his hand. Mousse, slowly accepted the handshake,
but loosened up as he saw no immediate danger.
"Mousse? Really? As in the one that works at the Nekohanten?"
Cassius asked, grabbing the name of the restaurant out of the corner of
his eye.
"Why yes, it's right here. I was about to put a sign up."
	Cassius appeared to look surprised.
"Of course," he said with a grin, "I'm not paying attention to
things. I should have seen that."
	Mousse laughed.
	"I know how you feel."
"So this is the famed Nekohanten. I just might have to try the
food. I'm told it's quite good."
	"By all means," Mousse replied.
Cassius stepped into the restaurant and sat down at a table Mousse
indicated.
	"What would you like?"
	Cassius shrugged and smiled.
"Anything. I don't really know what's good. Why don't you whip
together something you know brings people to eat - something popular."
	"Sure thing," Mousse replied.
Cassius smiled. Everything was going according to plan.

	"So you're a friend of Ken's?"
"Not really, more like an acquaintance. I've seen him around a
few times, but I've never had the chance to sit him down and really get to
know him. I do know that he was quite a guy. Had a lot of potential."
"What do you mean? Who are you?"
"Oh, I'm sorry. I should have introduced myself earlier. My name
is Cassius Grimm. I'm one of the Aspects Ken has probably mentioned."
	"What?!"
"Ken hasn't mentioned it to you? Well, to put it simply, I
represent order in the universe, and it's my job to maintain order in the
universe."
	"That's unbelievable!"
"Well, from what I've been told happens around here, it's not
altogether strange," Cassius replied.
Mousse looked thoughtful for a moment.
"You're right, but it's still a lot more out of the ordinary than
anything that's happened to me."
"I suppose so, but it's still something you're going to have to
accept."
"So why are you here?" Mousse asked, slightly suspicious of the
new customer.
"Well, I originally came here to try to send my condolences and
pay respect to Ken since his death - quite tragic you know."
	Mousse nodded.
	"And?" Mousse prompted.
"Well, I noticed that my brother, Judas is here. Judas is family,
but he's also extremely violent. Something I detest a great deal. I
really don't appreciate him running amok destroying things."
	"What about him?"
"Well, Judas has a grudge against Ken. I'm quite worried that he
might do something rash, like he usually does."
	Mousse raised an eyebrow.
	"What exactly is rash?"
"Well, Judas might declare war on the rest of the clans just so he
can do something hideous to the body, or something like that. I have no
idea. At any rate, it will probably be something grandiose and involve a
large amount of property damage."
	Mousse frowned.
"And you don't want that to happen."
"No, I don't. I try to maintain order, and I also respect the
fact that Ken is dead. There are people who need to mourn that death to
bring closure. I hope to prevent that."
	"That's awfully nice of you."
"Well, I owe Ken a favor of sorts. One of my warriors went rogue
and decided to try to take out one of the other Aspects. Ken eliminated
that problem for me. I feel I owe him something. This is the least I can
do."
Mousse nodded. A debt of honor came close to describing it, but
not quite; but it worked all the same.
"So what do you plan on doing about it?"
Shampoo walked out of the kitchen.
"Mousse, need help in kitchen right now," she said quietly.
She saw the stranger and eyed him closely.
"Who the new customer, Mousse? Why you talking to him instead of
waiting tables?"
	Mousse smiled sheepishly.
"This is Cassius Grimm. He is the Aspect of Order. He was
expressing his concern over the safety of the people that are mourning
Ken's death."
Shampoo sighed and looked saddened for a moment. Mousse cleared
his throat and looked back to Cassius.
"If you will excuse me, I need to help Shampoo in the kitchen."
	Cassius nodded.
"No problem. And thank you for the lunch. It's the best I've
had."
	Mousse smiled.
	"Thank you."
"Thank you, Mousse. Oh, and when you're done, why don't you came
back out for a moment. I'd like to have a word with you."
	Mousse looked perplexed, but nodded.

As they stepped into the kitchen, Mousse hesitantly put a hand on
Shampoo's shoulder. He winced as she jerked away.
"I'm sorry, Shampoo," he said in their native tongue.
"I told you before not to touch me, or act like you did before.
You were doing well. Please don't try to get close to me again, Mousse.
I need a friend right now, not someone who's obsessed with me."
Mousse winced. He thought back to when he brought Shampoo back
from the fight between Cologne and Ken. Shampoo gave him an unusually
harsh chastising for trying to get close to her, but that time, things
changed. It wasn't the high and mighty Shampoo yelling at him, but one
that was sad and filled with remorse. It was as if Shampoo had the
pedestal she was standing on abruptly taken out from under her. Something
snapped in Mousse's heart and he decided that time to try to listen for
once. Things seemed to improve once he started being less forward and
sedate around Shampoo, and that was incentive enough to maintain his
behavior after that.
	"I understand. I apologize."
	Shampoo sighed.
"Shampoo, are you still thinking about Cologne?"
	Shampoo nodded.
"It wasn't your fault. She had a great deal of leverage over you.
It wasn't your fault that she died. Cologne brought that upon herself.
Ken warned her of the dangers of the crown and bracelet."
"That doesn't help me any. Cologne is dead, Ranma doesn't love
me, and now I'm not an Amazon anymore."
"But aside from Ranma, is that so bad?"
	Shampoo whirled around.
"Of course it is! Being an Amazon was everything to me! I had a
place of honor at every table at home. Here, I have nothing! No friends,
only enemies! I hate it here!"
	Mousse took a step back.
"Shampoo, please don't yell. It's bad for the customers."
Shampoo roughly turned back to the sink and scrubbing dishes.
Mouuse walked over to a pot of soup and absently started stirring it.
"Shampoo, you spent so much time trying to get Ranma to say that
he loved you. You never spent time trying to make friends, or trying to
enjoy your life here. Maybe this is a chance to start all over again. We
can't go home, but it won't be easy here either. Perhaps this is a chance
for you to start over again, and live your life the way you want to live
it."
	Shampoo stopped scrubbing.
	"What do you mean?"
"Shampoo, I don't know how you fell about things here, but I think
it's a place where I can start over. Now that this entire thing has
passed, and now that Cologne's gone, maybe you have the chance to do what
you feel like doing. Make some friends or something. Cologne was always
here telling you what to do, and now it's come to a bad end because of it.
Maybe this is a chance for you to be who you want to be."
	Shampoo looked at him curiously.
	"What do you mean?"
"What I mean is to forget about Cologne, forget about Ranma and
try thinking about yourself and what makes you happy for once. Maybe
you'll discover something."
	Shampoo smirked.
	"And what about you?"
"Well, I have to do it too. There isn't anyone here to boss me
around anymore, and I really enjoy it. I don't know what I'm going to do
outside of the restaurant though. I guess it's all up to me."
	"Unusually insightful of you, Mousse."
"Well," he replied with a sheepish grin, "a lot of what's happened
has made me do a lot of thinking about a lot of things. Especially after
seeing what Ukyou had to go through."
"Do you think she'll be okay?"
"Funny you should show concern for her. You spent a lot of tmie
trying to make her miserable."
"We all did," Shampoo admitted. "At least it's over now."
	Mousse sighed.
"I'm going to go see what Cassius wants to talk about."
As Mousse left the kitchen Shampoo stared at the dishwater and
thought about what Mousse had said. Perhaps it was time for her to move
on and do what she wanted to do with her life. She wasn't an Amazon
according to Cologne, but now Cologne was dead, and as much as it saddened
her to think it, a great weight had been lifted from her shoulders.

Mousse sat down at the table across from Cassius. Cassius pushed
the empty bowl away from him and looked at Mousse evenly.
"You heard what I had to say before. I'm quite serious about
wanting to keep an eye on my brother."
	Mousse nodded.
"As an aspect, I can see people's auras, their chi according to
your spiritual concepts. Yours is very high, and is neutral, meaning you
haven't aligned yourself with an Aspect yet."
"So you want me to align myself with your clan?"
	"You're perceptive. I like that. Yes, I think it'd be a good
idea if you joined. I could use someone to keep an eye out for Judas and
some of his lackeys. I have a sneaking suspicion that they're going to be
causing a great deal of trouble in the immediate future."
"So I join and that's it?"
"No. I'd have to prepare you for what lies ahead. I'd have to
enhance some of your abilities and perhaps allow you to access powers you
never realized you had before. It will allow you to defend yourself in
case a duel should arise or if you get ambushed by Judas and his troops.
A dishonorable tactic, but one that is used nonetheless. I'd have to
eliminate your eyesight problems as well. We couldn't do with you running
about with glasses in the middle of intense combat."
"I'll need time to think about it."
"Of course. Give it a great deal of thought. You shouldn't make
this rashly, although I would really appreciate some help in this matter.
I don't know of anyone that is familiar with these surroundings and I
don't know who I can trust here."
	Mousse nodded.
	"How should I contact you?"
"Just say that you'll be aligning yourself with the Clan of Order.
I'll know," he said with a smile.
	Mousse nodded again.
	"I'll think about it then."
Cassius grinned as he got up from his seat.
"Very well then. It was an honor to meet you Mousse," he said as
he straightened his suit.
As he left the restaurant, Cassius grinned broadly. Everything
was going according to plan.

Judas wandered about the outskirts of Nerima looking about for
something, anything that caught his attention. The stares he got from the
people he passed didn't bother him, he was used it by now. He could have
changed from his field plat to normal civilian clothes, but truth be told,
he felt more comfortable in his armor. It even felt more comfortable to
him hefting about his kite shield and letting his axe clank about,
tethered to his belt. Why would he care if people were scared off by the
sight of such implements of war? To Judas, anyone scared of them
obviously weren't worthy of living.
As he cast about, a mall loomed before him. It was perfect. It
was a large center for socializing and commerce. There would be numerous
people inside, blissfully unaware that they were going to die. It was the
perfect place to cause havoc and pandemonium. He would take his time
causing fear and spreading panic. It was too bad Sin wasn't around. His
Avatar took so much pride in causing pain and strife. It truly amused him
watching her in action.
Judas smiled a small, silly smile as he thought about the various
things he could do to the mall and the people inside. As he settled upon
an idea, he pulled the axe from its tether on his belt. He felt the blade
out of habit. It was as sharp as always. Judas walked to an alleyway and
spotted a cat on a trash can. Without a second thought he wound back and
split it from the skull down. The blood spurted wildly for a bit before
settling down into a slow dribble. Rivulets of scarlet ran down the side
of the can. Judas smiled in appreciation and pulled a flask from his
belt. He poured a little oil from the flask onto the blade, took the
cat's dead body from the trashcan and rubbed the oil and blood around. It
wouldn't do to have the blade rust from the blood he was going to be
drenching it with.

Ranma and Akane sat watching the television. Ukyou had gone home,
escorted by Haruko. Faith was outside by the koi pond with her husband.
Anegla hadn't appeared again. The Aspect of Fate disappeared into the
dojo and never came out. It'd been a few hours now, and dinner was about
to come around. Faith was worried that there wouldn't be any space at the
table and wanted to leave, but Kasumi in her infinite generosity wouldn't
think of it. She told them to stay regardless.
	"This is boring."
Akane looked over at Ranma who stared at the TV in disinterest.
"Why don't you change the channel?" she asked.
"I'm too lazy. It's just one of those days I guess. Normally I'd
go spar, but I don't feel like it either. It doesn't feel right anymore."
	"Sparring?"
"No, sparring's fine, just out there. You know, around the dojo.
It just feels really weird there."
"I know what you mean. It's just so creepy by the dojo now."
"It's not scary, Akane," Ranma said with a smirk, "just a little
odd. I mean, I sparred with Ken once or twice, but now he's just on his
back on some alter. It's just too weird for me."
Akane sighed and started to flip through the channels.
"Is there anything you want to-" she started, turning around to
see Ranma.
"Whoa! Stop! No! Turn it back!" Ranma suddenly shouted.
Akane spun back to the TV, changing the channels back.
	"What's wrong?" she asked.
"The news! They had a picture of the troll in the football suit!"
	"What?!"
"That guy! The violent guy's on the news!"
Akane quickly flipped back the channels to the afternoon news.
"What's going on?" Nabiki asked as she sauntered into the room.
"What's the fuss about?"
"That," Akane said plainly, nodding at the television.
Nabiki stared at the TV screen in shock. She wasn't paying
attention to the anchorwoman talking, instead she stared at the picture of
Judas with the title, "Mall Massacre" in large red letters above it. Her
jaw dropped at the sight.
"and the death count climbs as an unnamed man in archaic armor
stepped into the Takashimaya Mall, slaughtering random people. People are
attempting to flee the scene but the doors seem locked shut, and a strange
characters around the mall in blood seems to be keeping the police at bay"
the newswoman droned.
"We gotta stop that guy," Ranma said quietly.
"What are you talking about?!" Akane asked incredulously.
"We have to stop him! Where's Andrew and Faith? Are they outside
still?"
Nabiki looked over her shoulder out the doors.
"Not that I can see. They must be in the dojo."
"There isn't much time," Ranma said, getting up from his seat.
"Ranma, you aren't thinking of going there yourself, are you?"
Akane asked incredulously.
"I'm not stupid, Akane," came the terse reply. Ranma strode
through the doors to the dojo.
"See if you can call Haruko at Ucchan's place. I'll bet Haruko
will want to know what's going on," he called over his shoulder.

	"I see."
Ukyou looked over to Haruko with a puzzled expression.
	"What was that about?"
"Judas has started the proverbial snowball down the mountain. I
hadn't anticipated this, but I knew something was wrong when I felt the
influx of souls."
	"What?"
"Judas is at one of the malls in the area and is slaughtering
innocent people. No doubt he will issue an ultimatum to me, demanding the
body in exchange for the souls of the slaughtered people."
"And you're going to take them?"
"It's the rules. If Judas has the souls required for the
exchange, then the exchange should take place. I have enough reason to
deny the exchange, beyond personal reasons of course, but if Judas doesn't
stop, there could be serious problems."
"A lot of people dying is more than a serious problem."
	Haruko looked at Ukyou evenly.
"If Judas kills too many people without allowing for a balance
then I will be too busy trying to maintain balance. You see, if Judas
kills a man, I can't just bring him back to life. Reincarnation and
resurrection are tricky and it costs me a great deal of energy to do so.
I could perhaps resurrect five, ten, a hundred people even, but anything
past that and I will be pushing the limits of my abilities."
"I thought you were the Aspect of Death."
"I am, but my power lies in arranging the balance, not simply
intruding in the timeline at any given point and altering reality there
and then."
	"Who's job is that?"
"Angela's. Judas knows it. That's why he's pushing this. If I
intervene, I will be too weak to prevent him from just taking the body.
If Angela intervenes, then Angela will be at risk of being harmed herself.
This is horrible."
"So are you going to go there?"
Haruko stared out the door of Ucchan's.
"No I'm not. Apparently Judas has used more brain in planning
this than most would give him credit for."
Ukyou looked out the door to see a woman with long jet black hair
and snow white skin standing in front of the restaurant. She wore what
appeared to be a leather corset and panties. Knee high leather boots and
stockings seemed to finish the outfit. She was dressed like an S&M queen
to the laces in the corset and zippers along the side of the boots.
Everything was in red, including the cat of nine tails wrapped around her
waist. Seeing that she had Haruko and Ukyou's attention, she smiled
devilishly, waved, and kissed the air.
	"That's bad isn't it?"
	"Yes. That's Sin. She's Judas's Avatar."

Ranma stared at the scene that lay before him and the people with
him. Akane gasped at the horrid sight. Ranma cold hear Faith take a
sharp breath. Andrew simply frowned. A large circle of characters in
blood appeared to wrap around the mall. The police were lined up around
most of the mall, seemingly unable to pass the characters. There was a
flurry of activity as people ran around the mall searching for a way into
the mall. Helicopter circled, looking for a way in, but stopping a few
meters around the mall itself.
"Why can't they get past the characters?" Akane whispered.
"Blood runes. Judas seems to have planned this out very
carefully. The police are probably balking because their guns aren't
working past the barrier. Judas has made sure that only people may pass
into the mall, but not out. The helicopters themselves can't pass into
the area circled by the mall because the runes inhibit large objects with
low spiritual energy from going through," Faith replied.
"So people can go in, but they can't come out?" Ranma asked.
"That's the idea. The police probably have figured that out by
now. It's a simple spell, but ingeniously implemented. I'd compliment
him, but I'd rather beat him senseless."
"I'm surprised Judas didn't increase the strength of the field."
	Akane looked to Faith quizzically.
	"What do you mean?"
"You can actually increase the strength of the field to inhibit
anything through, only naked people. Judas must be looking for something
in particular. Something very specific," Faith replied quietly.
	"What's that?"
Andrew looked at the field and then to the group of people around
him.
"Me. He wants to challenge me in there. Damn his soul to hell
for it. He knows I can't win in there."
"He's fiendishly clever sometimes," a voice from behind them said.
Ranma whirled about to see Angela standing behind them staring
past them at the mall.
"So what brings you here?" he asked in contempt.
	Angela stared at him evenly.
"This involves, Ken. I know what Judas wants and he's not going
to get it. If it means helping Andrew out, then so be it."
	Andrew smirked.
"I better slip in and see what I can do."
"Take this," Angela said, offering a small cubic crystal.
Andrew took it and looked at it intently.
	"And this is?" he asked.
"A safety precaution. Douse it in blood and you'll be able to
pass back through the wall the runes have set up."
	"My own."
	"It doesn't matter."
Andrew looked about and then set off towards the mall, softly
chanting arcane words as he went.
Ranma turned to look at Faith and Angela with concern.
"Will he be able to beat Judas?"
Ranma saw a tear trickle down Faith's cheek.
	"No," she whispered.
Angela looked at Ranma and Akane intently for a moment.
"What are you looking at us for?" Akane asked, her voice wavering
a bit.
"Perhaps he doesn't have to lose," Angela stated simply.
Faith looked at her sister perplexed.
"How do you propose doing that? Judas has the souls of a hundred
thousand worlds in his clutches. He's killed many Avatars before Andrew.
I don't see why he's going to lose this time.
"Andrew is powerful, and with Salvation to aid him he is more so
than any Avatar before; but Judas is an Aspect and there is no comparison
between Avatar and Aspect."
"Yes, but Judas only has experience fighting one Avatar at a time.
One on one is what Judas wants. Judas doesn't know how to handle more
than one Avatar."
Faith looked at her sister and then to Ranma and Akane. She shook
her head and backed away from her sister in fear.
	"You wouldn't," she trailed.
"Do you want Andrew to die? If Andrew dies, then it will be all
over!"
"No, I can't let you do that."
	"Then Andrew dies."
"But what about them? They aren't ready!"
"Would you have your husband die and allow Judas to force Haruko
to honor the exchange of Andrew for Ken? Is that what you want? You have
the chance to change things now Faith. Do it for Ken, for Ukyou, and most
of all, for Andrew. Don't lose him, Faith. It will only haunt you for
the rest of your undying days. Believe me when I say this."
"We can do this, Faith. If Angela believes in us, then why can't
you?"
	Faith looked at Akane evenly.
"You don't understand. How could you understand the implications
of this? Are you ready for the responsibility that your new power will
demand? Can you accept the consequences of your own actions. Once you
choose to become involved our war will be your war, and your lives will
tread the fine line between eternal life and instant death. The power we
can give little joy and brings much pain. Look at Ken and ask yourself if
that's how you want to turn out."
"And what about Andrew? He turned out just fine," Ranma replied
evenly.
Faith look at Ranma and Akane, seeing the resolve in their eyes.
"It is your decision to make, but know that I give no blessing in
this. I fear too much for your lives. I can not see your deaths, but I
can see where your those lines that dictate your lives disappear into
darkness. Only Haruko can tell you when you will die, but I can tell you
when you will be in constant uncertainty of living. That time would be
now, if you chose to accept Angela's proposition. Accept and the next few
moments of your lives could be your last."
Ranma and Akane looked at each other. Ken had given his life to
save theirs. It was only right that they tried to help Andrew. It was
what Ken would have wanted, wasn't it?
"I'm not afraid of Judas," Ranma said with conviction.
"You should be. You will be," Faith whispered.
Angela looked to Ranma and Akane.
	"You wish to help Andrew?"
	"Yes," Akane replied.
"Then speak in your own words, make your own choices. Say that
you wish to join my clan and vow to serve me until your dying days."
"I want to join your clan," Ranma said firmly.
"And you Akane?" Angela said as she looked to the youngest Tendo.
Akane's mind reeled. Ranma had joined, but what about the things
Faith had said? Ranma wasn't afraid of dying, but she definitely was.
"Akane?" Ranma asked gently. "If you don't want to, you don't
have to."
"But what about you?" she asked, her voice quivering.
"I can do this by myself if I have to," Ranma replied with a
smile. "Don't worry about me."
Akane looked over at Angela in apprehension. Ranma had done it.
Ranma could go into the mall and try to help Andrew. But what if he dies,
she asked herself. What if he gets hurt and I could have prevented it?
"I want to join," she said timidly, on impulse.
"Then know this, your powers will be mine to command and mine to
use, but just as yours will be mine, so will mine be yours."
Angela reached forth and touched each of their foreheads. Ranma
felt a cold wave pass through him, and he involuntarily shivered. Akane
reached out her hand and gripped his tightly. He could feel the same
thing happen to Akane, and he gave her hand a reassuring squeeze.
"That's all it takes, boys and girls," Angela said as stepped back
from the two of them.
"So what can we do now?" Akane asked.
"I don't know really. That you'll have to find out for
yourselves, but I think I have an idea. Unlike Faith or Haruko, I can't
really give anyone anything special. I can only take what you have and
make it stronger."
"So why are you trying to help us anyway? I thought you hated us,
especially Ukyou," Akane said after a minute of thought.
"I don't like seeing my sisters hurt," Angela replied quietly.
"And I owe it to Andrew to help. Ken would have wanted it," she
whispered.
Akane smiled. Angela looked at her and snorted derisively.
"Don't get any stupid ideas, you can't even imagine what I mean by
it," Angela snapped. "Let's get in there and save Andrew's lousy hide."
	Ranma cracked his knucles.
"Let's go kick that troll's butt from here to Shinjuku," he said
with a grin.
As they left for the mall, Faith closed her eyes and looked deep
into herself to find the lines that showed the lives of Akane and Ranma.
The vision she had was unclear and dark. When she looked for her
husband's, it was still bright as day. She opened her eyes, and a
bittersweet feeling washed through her. Andrew would be fine, but she
couldn't see Ranma or Akane's anymore.
"Your lives are your own now. Your actions will determine your
life and your death. I pray you return safely with my husband," she
whispered.
