Days of the Future's Son
Chapter 2
Over the next week, Raye slowly adjusted to living at the Capsule
Corp. She helped Bulma in her lab, cooked when Bulma was too busy, and
watched Trunks exercise, which even simply observing was an adventure.
Although she could not remember any of her past, she was quite sure
that she had never seen anyone powerful and graceful in their movements
as Trunks was. He had explained to her his alien heritage and the power
it brought with it after the first time she saw him power up. That had
really scared her. She could feel the power that coursed through him
and it was incredible. Now, he usually stayed powered down when she
watched him. Not that that hampered any of the grace or strength that
he displayed. He was simply beautiful to watch.
The rest of the time, she usually walked in the surrounding area.
There were not many buildings left from the Artificial Human's attacks
and the mostly empty cities felt desolate. It was depressing, but... it
also felt... familiar in a way. That thought unsettled Raye. Nothing
else around her felt familiar at all.
Most of the people she met were pleasant enough. While most of the
city was a wasteland, according to what she had heard, it was much
better than other areas of the world. It had been one of the first
areas to be rebuilt after the defeat of the Artificial Humans. The
people here were recovering from the twenty years of attacks and moving
on with their lives.
Their current project was to rebuild a library. Raye had started
helping them with this. It made her feel useful, which she did not feel
much of the rest of the time. Though it was true that Trunks and Bulma
went out of their way to make her feel welcome, Raye just felt... out of
place. So, when she was not at the Capsule Corp, she was shelving books
at the new library.
Today, she was alone in the job. The librarian had left a note
telling her what to do, so Raye had just started right up. So intent
was she upon her task that she almost missed the girl that walked by
her. To her knowledge, Raye was the only one that was supposed to be
there. So Raye called out to her.
"Hi, can I help you?"
The girl turned around and Raye got a good look at her. She was in
her late teens, medium height with an athletic build. Brown hair framed
her face and accentuated brown eyes. She wore a blue outfit somewhat
reminiscent of a dancer's with tights, tied belt, shirt with
loose-fitting sleeves, and a mask around her eyes. When she did not say
anything, Raye tried again.
"Is there anything I can help you with?"
The girl smiled and motioned for Raye to follow her. Raye did.
"Do I know you?" asked Raye.
The girl did not answer and continued to walk about ten feet in
front of Raye. Raye was led through the book stacks until they
reached... a wall? When they had reached this point, the girl turned,
waved and walked through the wall, still waving.
"Wait!" Raye shouted. The ran to the closest exit and then to the
outside wall corresponding to where they had been. There was nothing
She felt the wall and it was solid.
'How in the world did that girl get through?' thought Raye. 'And
why did I expect her to be on this side?'
Trunks was running down a long corridor with a woman. The woman
had brown hair streaked with gray pulled up in a severe bun. They were
both carrying guns. The woman was carrying another device that Trunks
could not identify. They stopped at a large door and the woman spoke.
"This is the point of no return... are you ready?"
Trunks nodded unsurely.
The woman studied his face, nodded and shot through the door.
After leading the way into the room, she said, "After the bomb goes
off, there will be nothing left here. Mastermold will be destroyed."
"Wuh?"
The woman looked at Trunks gently and said, "But you won't be here
when it happens... I'll miss you Rachel... _DARK PHOENIX_!"
And everything went black.
"Trunks... Trunks..."
Said person was slowly waking up. He had been taking a break from
training for a few minutes and had fallen asleep.
"Come on... are you going to sleep all day?"
The male voice pierced his consciousness. He slowly opened his
eyes, saw who was talking to him, and almost passed out.
"Go-Gohan!?!"
"There we go... now, since you took so long to wake up, you have to
catch me before we can train."
With that, Gohan shot into the air leaving a stunned Trunks
staring.
"Gohan, wait!" screamed Trunks when he regained his senses. He
shot to give chase but Gohan's ki had disappeared.
Trunks continued to search for the rest of the day.
Bulma sat working in her lab trying to fix some piece of machinery.
Most of her time was spent trying to fix some piece of machinery or
other for the towns people. Now that the Jinzouningen were gone and
they were rebuilding, they needed them. Today, it was a generator.
Normally they were very easy to fix but this one was giving her
problems. Every so often a growl or curse was heard from underneath.
Suddenly, an "Wahoo!" was heard from beneath the generator and the
large clank of a panel slamming closed. Bulma slid from underneath with
a smile on her face.
'Now that that is fixed, I'll go and get something to eat,' she
thought wiping off her greasy hands.
Walking down the hall and up the stair to the kitchen, she noticed
a dirty shirt on the floor in the living room.
'I wish Trunks would clean up after himself.'
When she got to the kitchen, it was a mess. Some one had gone
through the cupboards and the refrigerator and eaten most of the food
leaving dishes and packaging on the counters and floor. Bulma only knew
of one person who could go through that much food at one time.
"Trunks!" she yelled angrily. "Where are you?"
She heard some noise coming from the down the hall by the outside
door. She stalked in that direction yelling, "If you don't come back
here and clean that mess up, I'll..."
Bulma stopped short when she saw who was standing there with the
door open.
"What are you staring at woman?"
"Ve-vegita?"
"Yeah... I just came back for some food."
"Is...is it really you?"
"Who do you think it is? I'm going back out to train."
With that, he took off.
Bulma ran after him yelling, "NO! Stop! Wait!" but he was already
gone.
She dropped to her knees whispering, "Vegita..."
It was quite late by the time Raye got home. She had gone walking
after the incident in the library and had not even noticed the
approaching darkness. Trunks and Bulma had evidently already eaten
dinner and were no where to be seen. She did not really want to talk to
anyone so she went straight up to her room. She was not sure if what
she had seen had been a dream and felt very confused by the experience.
Little did she know that there were two other people in the house who
felt exactly the same way as she did.
So, feeling emotionally drained, she flopped herself onto her bed
and fell asleep.
"What the hell do you think you're looking at?" asked a short
dark-haired man angrily. He was wearing tan slacks, a pink shirt, hair
that was strangely spiky, and was sitting on a rock. His face was set
in an irate scowl.
"Umm, sorry," she mumbled, noticing that her voice was quite a bit
deeper that it normally was. She looked down, seemingly at the can in
her hand, but actually looking down at herself.
'I'm a guy again,' she thought.
"So," said the woman sitting near her. "Do you have a girlfriend
back home?" The woman had teal hair and seemed familiar.
"Ummm... not really," answered Raye blushing.
'Where am I?' she thought.
Just then, she looked up and saw a streak of light in the air. The
world got fuzzy as her body took off flying towards it. She landed at
the edge of the crater it made.
The world faded out as a man got out of a baseball shaped pod and
heard her body yell, "Son Goku..."
