Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon and all characters therein (c)
Naoko Takeuchi/Kodansha/Toei

I haven't seen the ending of Sailor Moon R, so statements here may
contradict the canonical events.

Any and all C&C needed. MSTs especially welcome.
*************************************************

        I hate being the queen.

Once, when I was a child, I dreamed of living in a magical palace
and ruling over a happy kingdom. Now that the dream has become reality my
greatest desire is to escape from it.

After I was reborn and found the world trapped in ice, I knew I was
morally obliged to start it anew, to cure humanity of the evils that plagued
it, and help the Earth become the shining light I knew it could be. So far,
so good. But a large number of people did not share my desires, and those
most violently opposed to them formed the group called the Black Moon. For
a time, they were led by a being called the Wiseman, a creation of Chaos,
and Crystal Tokyo and Nemesis were at war. He has been defeated now, but
tensions, which Lady Mercury has compared to the "cold war" between America
and Russia in the twentieth century, still exist. The people of Nemesis tend
to regard Silver Millenians as mindless slaves to me, while many of my
subjects think of Nemisis' inhabitants as selfish fools who refuse to accept
that they have a responsibility to anything other than themselves. I must
carefully think over the consequences of anything I say or do regarding
Nemesis, as one false move could potentially spark a cataclysm that may
annihilate both civilisations.

However, the political tension between the Neo Silver Millenium and
Nemisis is not the cause of my pain. The fact that I have become the queen
obviously means that I am now a public figure, somebody who must necessarily
be looked up at, be regarded as somehow above anybody else. THAT
is why I hate being queen. Wherever I go, I am forced to be dignified ...
responsible ... respectable. I can't be treated like an ordinary person.
Even the senshi no longer see me as their peer - I can't remember when the
last time Rei and I had an argument was. I want to find someone to replace
me, but there is nobody whom I feel I can trust to maintain the people's
happiness. If I they were told this, the people of Nemesis would probably
say what I really wanted was to hold on to my own power, but if they felt
what I did, they would know that to be untrue.

I wish I could spend my days eating ice cream, reading manga,
playing video games, and talking with friends who saw me as an equal. In
providing happiness for so many people, I have lost all of my own.
