Before I actually write, I am going to say that I might regret getting
into this, but I just LOVE these kinds of debates.

Each person has their own personal struggle between the balance of
logic and emotion and there is no real answer to how a person
should think. I am one who strives toward greater logic in though
so as Spock in Star Trek says, "The needs of the many are greater
than the needs of the few." Even if the few includes me.

Now, when I saw that, I figured he was saying that if the _few_ should
do something, it should be for the good of the _many_. In this example ,
Spock/_few_ is giving his life so that the the Enterprise/_many_ can
esacpe from Khan. That was a noble (if not a sad moment for Kirk) thing
he did.

And that's NOT the way Gendou is. "MY needs --", accepting >for the
moment your premise that he's doing all that he does to get >Yui back,
"-- are greater than the needs of the many, so I will f--k >over anyone
I have to in order to get what I want." *That*, sir, is >the summary of
Ikari Gendou as depicted in your work. And, sir, if >you admire him, I
recommend strongly that you *never* have children.

Yikes! Makes me glad I ain't Gendou. ANd that last sentence was rather
cruel, you cannot deny that Mr. Davies.

That the needs of the many are greater than the few or the one >is a
decision that can only be ethically made *by* the few or the >one. This
isn't about logic and emotion, this is about right and >wrong. What
Ikari Gendou wants is *wrong*, and the way he goes about
Oh really? If someone you loved dearly perished and you found a way to
bring that person back, you would probably do it right? I would. Even if
it involved a high margin of risk, you have to expect that, and it is
much better than simply doing nothing at all when that oppurtunity(sp)
presents itself.

accomplishing it is EVIL. Are you so blinded by the darkness of our
world that you no longer recognize evil when you see it, sir? Then,
sir, you are as damned as he is.

What are you talking about? There is barely, if any, true black or white
any more. It's all grey and a matter of POV. That is how screwed up our
world is today. NO ONE man can truly tell what is right and wrong in the
world today.

Here something to think about:
In the middle east, the Jews fight in Jeruselem because they lost their
home in Europe in WW2, and the Muslims fight because they don't want to
lose their homes! Now tell me, which one is the 'good guy' in this case?
NEITHER!

Getting back to the HCP, in my opinion, it's a choice of two evils.
Which one would you chose? Gendou's, where less people would most likely
die and preserve the human race. Or SEELE's in which the whole human
race might as well kiss it's stinky little rear good-bye! And I ask YOU,
Mr. Davies and everyone bothering to read this thread, which one would
you chose if you could do NOTHING to stop it. Which is basically the
position our 'heroes'(if they can actually be called that) are in.

Chris Davies.
("NO! Don't leave me!" -- Ikari Gendou.)
("HURTS TO BE ABANDONED AND ALONE DOESN'T IT YOU FILTHY BASTARD?" --
me, reacting to the above.)

Try being in HIS shoes for a year Mr. Davies. That's all I can say.

Just because someone has done wrong does not mean they deserve such a
thing. Though it would be kinda nice if Gendou knew how it was like to
be in Shinji's shoes.

To sum up this whole deal, I agree with Captain Jack that Gendou is not
all wrong, just most of the way. There is good and evil in all of us,
you just need to look a little harder for the good in some people.
Hate me if you want to Davies or any other Gendou-hater... besides, this
is a FICTIONAL CHARACTER we are talking about!

Now, can we just stop this whole thread and get back to writing our
fics? I don't feel too good right now... too many negative vibes going
around in this.
