A question related to a fic I am (slowly) working into shape.  How is
Daley of BGC presented in the original Japanese?  Is he portrayed in the
Japanese equivalent of the gay stereotype, or is the performance more
sophisticated than that?

He's openly gay, and he doesn't hit on anyone in the show except as a joke
(it's a running gag between him and his partner, Leon McNichol). I don't
think he "swishes", except as part of the joke (when he's being
intentionally silly). In your criteria, it's more sophisticated than
stereotype.

<nodding> Okay, but this much I can gather from the subs and dubs.  What I
was asking was not so much about this level, but something that I don't
know enough about Japanese culture to gather; namely, if there's a
Japanese version of the "homosexual stereotype", does Daley as presented
in the original Japanese fit or break that stereotype? 

He's a *very* good cop, and seems quite dedicated to the job. When Miriam's
SuperBoomers took over ADP HQ, Daley appeared to be in charge of the scene
when the ADP troops were trying to retake the building.

Yeah, I noticed that.  Makes me wonder just what Daley and Leon's ranks
*really* are...
