Differing Powers - OR - The Teaser I Should Never Have Written

A short Ranma 1/2 - Wheel Of Time exercise in futility

Ranma 1/2 characters.  This was done strictly for fun and not for profit.
Please don't kill me.

    Yeah, the plot's weak and it looks very hurried (especially afetr the
flashback), lots of missed opportunities, etc. but this only a teaser, so
tough.  I gotta get to school too, so...

    If I'd listened to my instincts (and taken the time), I would've
expanded what's written here into a bloody 70 Kb teaser (really, I could if
I was stupid enough to)...  Comments and MSTs are welcome! (if you think
this is worth it, of course!)

    Ranma trudged wearily through the dusty street, a feverish Akane moaning
on his back.  *At least we're in a town.  I hope there's someone here who
can help Akane.  Her fever's gotten worse.*  Ranma also had the beginnings
of a fever, but it was still bearable for him.	He sighed.  *If only we
hadn't lost Ryoga as well when we got here...*	As he neared was he guessed
was a tavern, he thought back on the previous days' events...

    ...	The Tendo family was just finishing lunch when Ranma heard an
unfortunately familiar voice cackling in the backyard.

    "Haha!  My pretties!  Now I'll have you all before anyone can even
react!"

    Ranma made a face as het set down his chopsticks.  "Looks like the
pervert's back," he announced in a resigned voice.

    Akane looked up from her rice bowl.  "What do you mean 'the pervert's
back', Ranma?  You never left," she said sweetly.

    Ranma glared at her (while Soun started another crying fit) and went
outside to pound Happosai into so much paste.  As he got out of the house,
though, he finally noticed what Happosai was holding and he swallowed a
sharp breath. *The Nanban Mirror!?  Where the hell did it come from?
Nabiki destroyed it when she stepped on it last time!*

    At the same moment, Happosai suddenly looked behind his shoulder and
noticed Ranma staring at him, or rather at the object he was holding.  "No!
Not this time, Ranma!" he yelled and suddenly dashed out of the Tendo
yard, mirror in hand.

    Ranma made a quick dash in the house.  "We got trouble guys!  I don't
know how the hell he managed it, but the old freak's repaired the Nanban
Mirror.  We gotta stop him before he does something stupid!"

    Soun and Genma looked at each other, then at Ranma.	"Good luck, son!"
said Genma.

    Under lesser circumstances, Ranma would have facefaulted.  "Should've
know you'd be a great help," he muttered, then quickly dashed out of the
house in the direction he had seen Happosai leave in.

    Seconds after he left, Akane rose from her seat  and started glowing
faint blue.  "That baka didn't even ask me to help him!  Ranma no baka!"
she shouted, chasing after Ranma.

    "Isn't young love so beautiful?" said Kasumi in her ususally nice voice,
watching her younger sister leave.  Nabiki raised an eyebrow while Genma
and Soun went back to eating.


    As she was chasing Ranma, Akane suddenly found her name being called.
Stopping for a second, she noticed Ryoga waving at her from the other side
of the street.

    "Akane-san!" he said, running up to her.  "At last, I've found you!"
    Akane grabbed Ryoga by the arm and pulled him along.  "C'mon,
Ryoga-kun," she said.  "We gotta stop Happosai before Ranma does!"

    *She's holding me!  It is bliss!* was the only thing Ryouga could think
of, as he was effortlessly dragged away by Akane.


    Ranma quickly located Happosai.  Not that it was especially hard, since
all he had to do was locate a hoard of raving mad women chasing a dwarf.

    Happosai managed to shake the crowd, though, and quickly went to hide in
a small park.  When Ranma caught up to him, Happosai was already rubbing an
onion in his eyes, trying to get some tears for the Nanban Mirror...

    ...Ranma was shaken out of his reminiscing when Akane started stirring
on his back.

    "Where are we?" she asked weakly.

    "Some city called Tar Valon, I think.  I hope there's somone here who
can help you.  It's bad enough I can't speak English very well," he said,
but noticed she had gone limp again.  *Gotta find a doctor and fast!*

    A garbled conversation later, he was directed towards a white tower that
was sitting in the middle of the island.  The conversation with the guards
at the gate was a long one (considering Ranma's verbal English skills
aren't all that great), but the guard finally agreed to let them see an Aes
Sedai when he saw how sick Akane was.


    Once inside, a woman with a yellow shawl came up to them and asked what
the problem was.  Ranma gently lowered Akane on a bench and set about
explaining Akane's fever.

    Trying to answer in half-English, half-Japanese earned him an odd look
from the Yellow Sister and the divided (not yet undivided) attention of a
Brown Sister.  Finally, the Yellow Sister put her hand on Akane's forehead
and her eyes widened.  Ranma couldn't quite follow the rapid conversation
the Yellow had with the Brown, although one word that came up often was
'channeling'.

    As Akane was taken inside the Tower, Ranma tried to find out what was
going on.  He was explained that the fever had occured because Akane had an
emerging channeling talent (of course, Ranma understood only half of it).

    The two sisters finally convinced Ranma to go wait at a distance.
Agreeing, if reluctantly, Ranma wandered around until he came upon the
practice yards.  Seeing all those people train with swords reminded Ranma
of Kunou, so he moved to a little corner and started practicing a kata.

    He never noticed how much of a crowd he had gathered until he stopped.
Of course, much of that crowd consisted of Warders and students who thought
Ranma was an Aiel.

    It was all pretty harmless until an Accepted who was practicing her
Water weaves accidentally dropped a globe of water on Ranma's head...

***  BTW, I know Ranma's flashback is too detailed (how could he have know
what Akane was doing?) but like I said, this is a *sloppy* teaser of what I
could do if I put my mind to it.

Facts, Stupid Satements and Questions With No Answers in Randland...


- Could Ryoga ever finish a game of Maiden's Kiss without bleeding himself
out (whether from the nose or from the neck)?

- Would Mat try to put the moves on Onna-Ranma?

- Would Mat's luck protect him from her wrath?

- Can Mat's fox medallion counter chi?

- How did the Nerimians end up in Randland in the first place?

- How did Happosai manage to fix the Nanban Mirror?

- Would it really that important to the story?

- Why don't I have a more original plot device?

- Where could Ryoga's anti-directional sense possibly lead him?
Tel'aran'rihod?  Shayol Ghul?  An Aiel sweat tent?  Rhuidean?  The Court of
the Nine Moons in Seanchan (okay, so I'd have to wing that one...)?  The
Tower of Ravens?  The Amyrlin's private quarters?  Endless possibilities!

- How long 'till the Aes Sedai figure out Ranma's gender curse?

- How many Warders could Ranma take on at once?

- What happens if you mix Ranma, cats, Aes Sedai, Asha'man, cannon
fod<AHEM> people and *no* Akane?  Dumai's Well revisited!

- What happens when Nerimian super martial artists encounters one or more
Ta'veren(s)?

- WHERE ON EARTH <ahem> IN RANDLAND AM I NOW?!!!  (Quote - Ryoga)

- How many Aiel can Ranma take on at once?

- Should I have written this bloody thing in the first place?

- What happens if you hit a Portal stone with a stray Hiryuu Kourin Dan?
(Assuming there *is* such a thing as a stray Hiryuu Kourin Dan in the first
place...)

- Would angreals and sa'angreals work with chi?

- How long until Ranma calls Min "Ucchan" by mistake?

- How would Rand react to that?

- How much would Perrin (in regard to his wolf complexion) freak if he saw
Ryoga's fangs?

- How does a macho *male* martial artist survive in the White Tower?

- How long 'till Nyneave tries to balefire Ranma?

- How long 'till Akane tries to balefire Ranma?

- How long 'till Moiraine loses her temper and tries to balefire Ranma?

- How long 'till the Amyrlin loses her temper and tries to balefire Ranma?

- Would Ranma stand in place long enough to be balefired in the first
place?

- Would Onna-Ranma purposely flunk her tests to get out of the Tower?	You
bet!  Would the Aes Sedai let her?  No way!  ;)

- Who's the strongest (and most dangerous, for that matter)?  A pissed-off
Nyneave or a pissed-off Akane?

- Showing a Jusenkyo curse to a Brown Sister is a Bad Idea.

- Showing a Jusenkyo curse to a White Sister is a Bad Idea.

- Showing a Jusenkyo curse to a Red Sister is a Bad Idea.

- Showing a Jusenkyo curse to a Black Sister is a Bad Idea.

- Showing a Jusenkyo curse to ANY friggin' Sister is a Bad Idea.

- Showing a Jusenkyo curse to a Whitecloak is a Very Bad Idea.

- Who's the toughest: Sephiroth or Gumby?  (Oops!  Wrong series...)

- Will I ever stop with these stupid questions?

- Do you really *want* me to stop? (please say yes, I can't take much more
of this!!!)

- Will Kasumi ever marry Doctor Tofu?

- Would Lanfear leave Rand and end up as another of Ranma's fiancees?

- How much would Rand pay for that to happen?

- Shouting 'Rising *Dragon* Punch' in front of Aes Sedai (particularly the
Red ones) is a Very Bad Idea.

- Will Ranma ever find out why people ran away screaming their lungs out
the first time he used a Mouko Takabisha as a guy?

- Will Ranma ever find out why people started calling him 'Aes Sedai' the
first time he used a Mouko Takabisha as a girl?

- Will Ranma ever find out why people ran away screaming 'Aiel' the first
time he killed a Trolloc with some martial arts moves?

- Does Ranma even *care* to find out those things?

- Will Ryoga ever find out those Red Sisters have been trying to kill him
since the day he dug his way up from undergroud into the White Tower by
using the Bakusai Tenketsu?

- How long 'till the Aes Sedai figure out the difference between chi and
the One Power?

- Sacry Concept: Akane as the Amyrlin.

- Very Scary Concept: Remember how they pick Mord-Sith?  Now imagine
Kasumi as a Mord-Sith - (Damn!	wrong series again!)

- Ultimate Forbidden-By-The-Great-Kami Concept: Kasumi as a damane. (I
shudder to think of it)

- Big Damage Concept:	A One Power-ed version of the Hiryuu Kourin Dan
with the super sa'angreal statue from Cairhien.  (Breaking, Hiroshima,
Nagasaki, eat your heart out...)

- Who's the toughest: Ryoga or a Gholam?  (Think about it...)

- Will Jeremy ever continue Ta'varen 1/2 so I won't feel Compelled to
write this? (Moghedien, Liandrin, stop that!)

- Will the Aes Sedai ever get Ranma in a Novice dress?

- How long would Happosai survive if he groped an Aes Sedai?

- How long would Happosai survive if he groped an Aiel Wise One?

- How long would Happosai survive if he groped the Amyrlin?

- How long could Ryoga keep his curse a secret?

- How can a piglet find hot water in Randland?  (Answer in the next
sentence)

- A small, black piglet that can channel is a Very Cute, Yet Very
Dangerous Thing.

- Will Biles ever finish Parallel Lives so my soul can rest in piece and
not RIP the offending author into shreds? (puns are fun!)

- Take 1 part depression, 1 part Dark One's Taint and mix.  Result?  The
New and Improved Shishi Hokodan!

- Take 1 Interdimensional All-Purpose Happy Baka Smasher Mallet, mix with
Air weave.  Result?  A mallet that can clock people (preferrably Ranma)
from afar!

- Take 1 Jusenkyo/Nyannichuan curse, add 1 a'dam.  Result?  I haven't got
the faintest idea, but it has *got* to give a sul'dam headaches, that's for
sure...

- Take Ranma and Loial and team them up for 24 hours.	Result?  An Ogier
who decides that the Stedding might not be such a bad place after all.

- Grudge Match of the Age:  The Nerima Wrecking Crew vs. The Forsaken!

- Will someone stop me from writing more of this?  PLEEEAAAASE!

- How long 'till a Green Sister tries to bond Ranma or Ryoga without their
consent?

- Will the White Tower break Akane's temper or will Akane's temper break
the Tower?

- Will the Nerimians ever go back home or will they like it too much in
Randland?

- Why aren't I writing more Lines Of Destiny instead of this crap?

- I could make a very serious story out of all this junk...

- I could make a very silly story out of all this junk...

- Biles, this is *ALL* *YOUR* *FAULT!*  ;)
