i've noticed this too.

there seems to be some stigma against writing first-person stories in
general.  (at least in my experience...)  two people (including me) out of
twenty-three in my English class last year  wrote first-person stories. 
i've always written from the "i" perspective.  and someone out there is
probably thinking, sure, then why was that El-H 'fic in the third-person? 
"Another Night, Another Dream" was a total departure from my norm. 
somehow it sounded better in the third-person in my head, so that's how it
got written.  i'm working on some first-person 'fics now that may or may
not be released soon.  first-person requires a little character research
to get right.  if you get someone OOC, then you've got a problem. 
first-person allows you to relate better with the character, but if
everything seems wrong, how are people going to relate?  you have to be
very careful.
