As I was mulling over how to continue with my most recent EVA
piece, I realized that I hadn't seen very many fics written in first
person, including most self-inserts. Is that really the way most pieces
are written, or is it just me?
Most fics? I'd say that most prose fanfics are written in
third person past tense, and most script fanfics are written in third
person present. First person isn't -that- uncommon, but it's not used
for the majority of fics.
Yep. As has been analyzed by several others here, first person is
just very difficult to do.
On a tangential note, I wonder whether there's ever been a
fanfic written in second person. I suppose that'd be a
"reader-insertion" fic, as opposed to "self-insertion"... It might
make an interesting exercise, if nothing else.
As a matter of fact, there is. Jang Choe's "Berserker" (or
something like that) was done in second person.... Very spooky story.
