The reason why Ranma has interrupted any chances of Ryouga revealing
his love for akane could be
a.He is very afraid that Akane will like Ryouga back and he will lose him.
or
b.He knows that Ryouga couldn't handle the rejection coming from Akane
and wants to spare him the pain

10 to 1 says it's choice 'a.'

 I have mentioned this to Hunter Kid , but the reasons in the manga as to
why they might get together is because of the koi fishing rod incident.
Ryouga
had tried to use the rod on Akane, but got Ranma instead. Thus making Ranma
fall in love with him. 

Yeah, but look at how repulsed he was to Ranma's come-ons.  I think it's
pretty obvious that he doesn't like Ranma, and Ranma doesn't like him.  As
lovers, friends, or otherwise.

 Why any of that is important is the fact that the barrel containing a
bunch of koi
fishing rods had a label (or is that lable?) saying you could catch your
true love
with it. It could be said that the rod would only work on your true love.

The phoenix was supposed to make Kunou invincible, too.  Things don't
always work like they should, you know.

 If you think this whole idea is neat write a fanfic about it. If you think
it's stupid
write a fanfic about it anyway.

It's a neat idea, but not very plausible within the limits of the manga.
Not that any of us follow those limits anyway.  So write it; it sounds
good! <g>
