Hi all...

Here's a little something I wrote in about an hour last night.
It's all pretty happy, I'm afraid, so barf bags on standby.

This is the first 'fic I've posted to the FFML, so C&C welcome.
Flames to /dev/null, unless they're funny ;)

Evening Breeze
--------------
A Ranma shortfic by Adam Jones
--------------

Ranma woke slowly, the morning sun glaring brightly through the
window. He felt a warm arm draped across his chest and gently slid it aside.
Akane murmured gently in her sleep and rolled over slightly, her
peaceful features bathed golden in the dawn.

Ranma sat up and stretched slowly, enjoying the warmth of the room.
He leant down and shook Akane lightly by the shoulder.

"Wake up, you sleepy tomboy" he whispered.
"Hmmmnh?" Her eyes opened slightly.

He leant down further and brushed his lips lightly across her cheek.

"Come on, wake up - it's a beautiful morning."

She looked up into his eyes, her back to the window.

"You're right - it is beautiful."

Ranma blushed slightly.

"Want a quick warm-up before breakfast?"

Her eyes widened slightly and she put her arm around his back.

"No, silly - outside!"
She feigned disappointment. "Awww."

He got up. "You coming?"
"Sure - if you don't mind losing..."
"Like a clumsy tomboy like you could even touch me!"
"Baka" she muttered, bopping him lightly on the head.

Ranma pulled his black trousers on and resumed towelling his hair.

"Who couldn't touch who?" smirked Akane.
"Aw, I went easy on ya'."
"Oh yes?" she asked, sweeping his legs from under him.
"Ow! No fair! I'll get you for that!"
"Really?"

He flipped up and grabbed her suddenly, then kissed her on the lips.
She giggled slightly and put her arms around his waist, pulling him
nearer.
"Yep." he smiled, letting go and causing her to lose her balance.
"Say, you wanna go have breakfast with Ucchan?"
"Sure - just let me finish dressing."

Ukyou hummed a slow, wistful tune to herself as she cooked. The
restaurant was very quiet this morning. Except for Ryouga, sitting
in the corner, hardly anyone had come by.

She noticed him staring at her (when he thought she wasn't looking)
and blushed slightly, turning to the grill. She jumped slightly
when she saw what a mess she'd just made of her cooking.
Damn that boy, couldn't he just...

A small bell rang as the door opened and Ranma walked in, followed
by Akane.

"Hi Ucchan! Hi Ryouga!"
"Hiya Ranchan, hi Akane."
"Hi Ukyou. Hi there, P-chan - long time, no see!"

Ryouga suddenly seemed to be very interested in the pattern on his
plate. Ranma smiled slightly - it was amazing how that still got to
him.

"You two up for breakfast?"
"Please!"
"Coming right up, sugar."

Ranma and Akane went to sit with Ryouga.

"So, where ya' been the past month, P-chan?" asked Ranma.
"Well... I'm not sure..."
"Surprise..." muttered Ranma under his breath.
"Hey! I'm pretty sure I remember seeing some big stone pyramids.
Oh, and I think there was a big waterfall. Or maybe two... and
 then there was this huge..."

Ranma and Akane sighed in unison.

"Oh yeah, I bumped into Shampoo and Mousee somewhere too."
"How are those two, anyway?" asked Ranma.
"Getting on fine - when Mousse isn't accidentally grabbing the wrong
person and Shampoo isn't busy clobbering him for it..."
"Same old same old, then?"
"Pretty much."

Ukyou wandered over, plates balanced carefully on her arms.

"Here ya' go, hon." She smiled and sat down with them.

"Ranma?"

"Ranma? Ranma?" Akane asked, a note of concern creeping into her
voice (despite her best attempts to hide it).

Ranma was sitting under the bridge, staring into space. The sun was
setting, the light glinting off the water, the sky burning red.

"Hello? Earth calling Ranma! Come in, Ranma! Anyone home?"

She waved a hand in front of his face. No response.

"Come on, baka! Tea's nearly ready." she said, deciding that bribery
was the best option.

Ranma just sat, immobile, still staring into the distance and smiling
slightly. She heard a rustling beind her and spun around, her hair
flying in the breeze.

"Who's there?" she demanded angrily.

The world did not seem overly inclined to provide her with an answer.
She looked around more carefully and thought that she caught a glimpse
of something red and black disappearing behind a tree.

If she strained her hearing, she thought she could almost hear what
sounded like a young girl, laughing.

Or maybe it was just the river, murmuring in the wind.

OK, so I lied about it being happy... for those who don't get it, the
title is a _big_ spoiler (partly because I couldn't think of a better
one). I wrote it last night whilst I was actually trying to write
something totally different (and revise for a test...).

Hope you liked it.
