Well, in the manga, I actually don't recall a single instance of Ranma calling
Akane a tomboy (in Japanese, that is).  Usually he calls her "uncute",
"violent", or "no figure".  I don't recall much about the Viz versions, but I
seem to remember that they translated "violent girl" as "tomboy".  

Matter of fact, the only time I recall the term "tomboy" (the actual
Japanese term for tomboy, that is) being used at all in the manga is by
Ranma's mother, in reference to "Ranko"...

as a compliment at least if used to refer to an athletic ability
especially to someone Akane's age or younger. What does it mean in
Japan or perhaps I should ask what does the original in Japanese insult
mean?
