PM Productions Presents
A Phillip Masters Fanfic
Life: Part 5
Breakfast is... interesting at the Tendo ancestral home. Father
jokes that there is a curse on this place that promises hectic
mealtimes. Mother just smiles... she's been serving meals here for
quite some time. It seems as though her food production rate as
increased exponentially over the years too. In short, she makes enough
to feed an army; a large, well fed, army. She doesn't do it alone, of
course. Yui, my second to youngest sister, is perfectly willing to
please. She's up bright and early, first to the bathroom, ready to
stuff us like Christmas hams.
This morning is no different. There is a pot, no, an entire tub of
Miso Soup adorning the table. As well as enough rice to bury an
elephant. Yes, we eat a lot here, but our Calories from Fat intake is
close to nill. We probably get more carbs in a morning than most track
teams do on the day of a race. It's no wonder we all fly to school,
then fidget in our chairs until gym.
Michiru and I both have gym together, and we readily whoop the tar
out of each other. Even when most of the rest of the class has given
out, her and I continue to fight. No matter what sport is being played.
Well, except hockey. I refuse to play that ever again. Ever since the
incident involving Michiru's stick endangering the continuation of the
Saotome blood line. I wince still as I think of that.
The field of battle layed, the attacks begin. One would think,
with all the food we have, there would be no problems involving the
stealing of food. However, for some reason no one can understand,
father likes to do it. You'll just be sitting there, enjoying a nice
steaming bowl of rice, and *poof*. No more rice, and father has a very
satisfied look on his face. Father thinks it's funny. Mother thinks
it's a good excuse to berate father. I just sit on the other side of
the table and ignore the whole thing.
I fill two bowls, one with Miso Soup, and the other with (surprise)
rice. The only person absent from the table is Michiru. She's still
taking her bath. I snicker lightly.
Akane and father are having an intense battle over a pickle. Can't
seriously blame them there, it is the only one on the table. I stare as
chopsticks fly, and the small dead vegetable gets tossed about. It is a
stare of boredom.
I look over to Yui, who is sitting next to mother, as usual. She
is the major quiet, shy type. Most of the time. She does have a temper
buried under that calm dimeanor, but it takes a lot to uncover it. What
she is, basically, is a clone of mother.
I sweep my gaze in the other direction, passing over the battle for
the pickle again, to see what Mai is up to. She's the youngest. You
wouldn't be able to tell. She looks more like she's eighteen instead of
fourteen. Mother calls her an "early-bloomer", every guy at school
calls her a "babe." I'm rather indifferent on the subject, all things
considered. At the moment, she is eating rice... one grain at a time.
You see, she has this belief that if you eat more than four hundred and
fifty grains of rice, you will get fat. Father tries to tell her
otherwise, she doesn't listen. The rest of us, minus Mother and Yui,
just make fun of her, as is our job.
"What are looking at, pervert?"
I am snapped out my reverie as Mai yells at me. I focus on her for
a second, then my defenses kick in. "I'm watching the slowest person in
the world eat, what's it look like?" I retort, not ready to just give
in today. Then, I have to add, "And I'm not a pervert!"
We tried to get Mai to use a scale, but she insists they're wrong.
Her exact words, and I will never forget this, were, "I mean, if all the
ones I stand on are wrong, why shouldn't the food ones be any
different?" Go figure.
"Yes you are! You are the single biggest pervert in this town!
Well, besides Grandpa Happosai, but he's not here right now!" There are
some things to be thankful for, she found one of them.
I can see where this is leading, so I alter my approach. "Look, I
was just admiring the skillful way you handle those chopsticks, okay?"
I smile while saying it, very convincingly.
She just sort of hurumphs and goes back to eating.
Just then, Michiru comes into the room. She smiles at me politely
and leaps into the fray. She snaps up the pickle father and Akane are
fighting over with a flick of her wrist. That is generally a bad idea,
and she is the only one in the house with the guts to come between those
two in full tilt. With the exception of mother, of course, who isn't
afraid of anything either of them could do, because they wouldn't do it
to her anyway.
From there, breakfast falls into the category of "typical".
Father, Akane, and Michiru having their fights. Mai slowly, extremely
slowly, eating her rice. And mother and Yui carefully ingesting their
food with grace and precision, while sending disapproving glances toward
the three competetors.
There you have it, breakfast at the Tendo ancestral home. Kind of
wish it was your family, now don't you? Didn't think so.
Now, we head to school. So far, this has been what I would deem an
"average" day (by Nerimian definition). Unfortunately, it's now only
eight thirty in the morning, and there are a lot of minutes left in the
day.
END PART FIVE
Not too terribly exciting, but I'm just building the scenery and
characters. I might go ahead and do part six tonight as well (school,
promises to be good). Till next time, send comments, and thanks for
writing!
