120 hours. Five days now I've been without sleep. My damn idea woman
won't let me go to bed. I'm staring at a long string of text that has
ceased to mean anything to me. My computer needs a break and so do I.
I glance back at my idea woman, who is sprawled on my bed, eating my
Junior Mints and drawing moustaches on the characters in my copy of Neon
Genesis Evangelion number one. My hand creeps towards a button on my
mouse. If I can just press it, maybe...
A gymnast's club impacts with the back of my head.
"No releaseing anything until I say so."
"Bitch," I mutter.
Another club hits me.
"I heard that. OHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO!!!"
-----
Of all the various mistakes I've ever made, the biggest was listening
to 'varentain no Kurobara' while thinking about Ranma 1/2. The thought
"Ranma and Kodachi. What a good idea." sprang into my head, and I
haven't been able to get rid of it since. Never.
While many people say that inspiration strikes like lightning, I've
found that that particular thought, the Ranma and Kodachi pairing, was
the only one that has done so with me. Oh, I've thought of many other
pairings. I've even written about several. (Though only two were ever
put out onto RAAC.) But every thought after that has arraived like...
well, like a gymnast's club impacting with the back of my skull.
If she would actually let me release something, maybe it wouldn't be so
bad. That's the reason I started writing fics in the first place. I
had ideas, awful disturbing ideas, and I have a vicious need to share
them with others. It wasn't because I like writing. I don't. But I
have a profound attraction to the idea of disturbing people. It
probably comes from living with that laugh in the back of my mind
whenever I think of something.
Perhaps not the best of motivations for writing, but it has, so far,
sufficed.
