Insanity.

That is what possess me when I write. Pure, unadulterated madness.

But if it didn't, I wouldn't stay sane.

Writing, and it doesn't matter to me if it is fanfiction or "real"
writing, is a smithing. I take a piece of my soul, and heat it in the
fires of imagination, hammer it on the anvil of my computer, and cool it
in the waters of the list.

I have helpers that come to me when I write. The spirits of my heros
and hatreds, my lovers and leavers all gather round, and help in the
forging. Indeed, as I write, you can often hear me talking to myself,
and responding to unspoken replies. You might think I'm crazy, but I
wouldn't give them up for the world.

My writing is a carthetic experience. It is a way for me to remember.
To feel again the ecstasy of my first time making love, to know again
the pain of being a seven year old drunk. A way to remember, and to
make peace.

Words come easily to my mind. They flow in and out, faster then my
mortal hands can type. I could easily spit out megs of shit in a few
hours, if I just sat down and typed, but that isn't what I want. I
agonize over every word choice, trying to have each one stand alone and
create a mood with all the others. Writing fiction for me is the same
as writing poetry. And if I can't get something that good, then fuck
it, it doesn't deserve to be put out until it is that good.

Why do I write? I write because I want to write. I write because if I
didn't, I would probably end up dead.

I write to stay sane.
