At a *minimum*, save it as a .txt file, and open it in Notepad to check 
it before sending. Also, avoid using any high-ASCII characters, 
especially 'smart' (curly) quotes; the 'net doesn't always deal well with 
high-ASCII, and some servers (including mine) munge them, leaving the 
result difficult to decipher. Use plain (straight) quotes instead. This 
is one of my pet peeves, and will often keep me from reading a story 
altogether.

Also, try to avoid attaching the story as a file; it's usually better to 
copy and paste the text into the body of your message. In fact, if you're 
using a Windows-based email program like Eudora or Pegasus (instead of 
something like Pine on the VAX/Unix host), this can also take care of 
line break issues. Save the file as Text Only without line breaks (in 
other words, the only breaks are at the end of each paragraph), then 
paste the file into the message window; when Eudora sends it, it'll 
hard-wrap the story automatically.
