oops! Sent this to fanfic.fanfic.ORG the first time.. hope it doesn't
duplicate unnecessarily. -_-;
Well, I released the teaser for this a little while back and got some very
nice responses/C&C- so I'd like to take a moment to thank those that sent
in mail or questions.. and then a moment also to explain..
For various reasons, I chose not to continue the story as a full fanfic,
because I found myself realizing that, with a three-year-old original
novel concept still in the planning stages, I didn't really have the time
to write up a long and complicated fanfic.. and moreover, my personal
philosophy of 'fic writing is that, unless I can come up with something
that either adds to the universe or in some way enriches a reader's
understanding of the series in some way ... it's not worth the effort and
time of doing. (This is IMO, so don't take offense, please, for none is
intended.)
But at the suggestion of a friend, I decided to go ahead and finish off
the teaser as a free-verse poem... and if someone would like to pick up
the ball and write a fanfic based off this poem, they're more than welcome
to contact me at haruka@maison-otaku.net and we can hash something out.

Here's the poem. I hope those who read it enjoy it..
-----World Shaking here------
Angel of Mercy
A free-verse SM poem by haruka@maison-otaku.net
C&C welcomed.
I sit quietly in this dark and silent temple chamber,
our refuge from the storm, so kindly offered to us.
I wait for you to fall asleep,
lying awake at your side, watching over you.
I hope your dreams are good;
I brush my hand over your eyes to close them,
place a soft kiss on your forehead.
And I try not to think about what I'll do tonight.
I can't give a sign or a sound, because I can't let you wake.
I don't want to do this, Michiru.
But I have to.
It's the only way to stop him.
It's the only way to save the Princess.
To save us all.
I know you'll understand.. at least, I hope you will..
when this is over... if we ever meet again.
But for now.. sleep, and please don't wake.. stay in your dream,
(are you dreaming of me, I wonder?)
rest your head on the soft pillow,
with your dark green hair curled in strings around your neck.
Breathe so peacefully,
under the heavy blanket around your shoulders.
Brush your hand over the empty space alongside you
where I should be now...
and please, don't wake.
I think about a thousand times I've held you close to me.
Watched your beautiful smile shine for me
as our bodies fitted together closely,
to dance, to love, to sleep.
I hear your voice, your music, your laughter.
I weigh all of you in my heart against my choice,
but I already know what the outcome will be.
I've wrestled with this for three sleepless days and nights
and it's because I love you,
because I cherish your life in every fold of my soul,
that I have to act now.
I rise away as your breathing deepens.
I promise I'll make it quick.
I'll make it painless.
You won't know, and you won't suffer.
I bring the Space Sword down, in its silent yellow arc-
I let it pass through your neck silently, leaving no blood,
no trace, no line of severance.
A clean break from life to a land of sweet, eternal dreaming.
I'm shaking uncontrollably, my eyes wide.
The Talisman falls from my quivering hands and evaporates in a haze.
I've done my duty.
Your pain will never be, now.
I've beaten him to you.
Now you're safe from him; you're free.
Now I can mourn, hot tears bursting from my clenched closed eyes
as my heart dies with you,
as I pull your stilled form into my arms
and bury my tears in your breast.
Give me one last kiss; your lips are still warm,
oh, God, Michiru, I wish I could follow you-
embrace the sword's bright blade into my heart.
And I will, I swear,
but not until my mission is complete.
I leave you to your endless sleep,
and stumble on unstable legs to the sliding door.
They'll find the body tomorrow and give it a true, proper burial.
At least that's assured.
You'll be blessed and consecrated,
dressed in formal silk,
given your rightful worship in death.
And he can not take you while you are shielded by sacred ground.
Opening, and closing the white ricepaper door,
I leave the sacred ground,
darting across a grey stone courtyard to penetrate the night.
The moon is sterile and white behind my shoulder,
my shadow is long as I run.
I can't see very well; my vision wavers.
I'll miss you more than I can ever say;
for as long as I live,
from this moment on,
I will mourn you with every breath.
I will be the angel of mercy-
for you, and all the others..
I will end your lives before he can make your lives unbearable.
A promise between me and the mourning night wind,
carrying me forward in its wings
into the darkness of my unavoidable fate.
