Konichiwa, minna-san! If anyone has an idea for a title for this, please
mail me. C&C is always appreciated. ^_^
Sailor Moon is copyright Takeuchi Naoko, I'm just borrowing the
characters for a while. ^_^
"Serena, I don't have feelings for you anymore."
"Darien, you can't mean that," I whispered, bewildered.
"I'm sorry, Serena. It's over." His voice sounded so final, I knew that
he was serious.
"Please, just one thing."
"Look, Serena, I--"
"Please. Look, there was this song... I wanted to sing it at our
wedding someday, but that's not going... to happen now." I fought to
keep my tears under control.
"I'd... I'd just like to sing it now. It's called, ‘Everything I Do, I
Do it for You.'"
One final plea, a beautiful song that summed up all my emotions for
Darien. I sang with all my heart, praying that it would convince him.
He turned away, refusing to look at me. As the last notes of the song
faded away, he remained there, staring at the wall. He said nothing.
I was always a lousy singer.
"Goodbye, Darien... I'll always love you."
I left the apartment, shutting the door quietly behind me.
There was only one thing left for me to do. I walked purposefully down
the street, knowing what my destination would be and, for once, not
caring how long it would take to get there.
I knew that he had loved me in the Silver Millennium, when I was
Princess Serenity of the Moon Kingdom and he Prince Endymion of Earth.
But things had changed. Before his duel with Zoicite, he had spoken of
having amnesia after his parents died in a car crash. Maybe his early
years on Earth had hanged his soul. Maybe he was no longer Endymion, but
Darien, just as I was different from Serenity. She was dignified and
graceful, I couldn't even go five minutes without klutzing out. Maybe he
was still Endymion but I... I could never be as wonderful a person as
Serenity, and that was why he didn't love me anymore. When he lost his
memories, a mere few weeks ago, I had told him that it was our destiny
to be together forever. But I was wrong. Our souls were together in a
past life, but that didn't mean that we were meant to be together in
this life. Perhaps there was no destiny, only free will and an uncertain
future.
I had reached my destination-- a bridge high above sparkling lake. It
reminded me of the wonderful days that we'd spent together, going out in
his rowboat, staring out at the water together, talking. It had all been
an illusion. A wonderful illusion, but an illusion nonetheless. I wished
that things could be the way that they were before, but it was
impossible. He didn't love me anymore.
I stepped to the edge of the bridge, ducking under the railing so that
I stood on the rim. One more step and it would be over. I yearned for
the wonderful numbness that death would bring. Without Darien, I had
nothing-- I was nothing.
"Serena, no!"
I looked behind me. The senshi stood there, looking angry.
"Go away," I said dully.
"Serena, you can't do this," Mercury protested.
"Yeah, you're our leader," Venus added.
"We won't let you die," Jupiter said determinedly.
"You can't stop me."
"If you jump, we jump too."
"Mars, you can't throw away your life. You have too much to live for."
"So do you."
"I have nothing if I don't have Darien."
"You have us," Mercury said firmly, and the others nodded. "You're the
Princess. We need you, Serena. And I know that you need us, too. You
can't abandon us."
"You're better off without me, I'm always the one that messes up,
remember? Luna said it herself. The rest of you are great warriors, I'm
the klutz."
"Snap out of it, Serena! Feeling sorry for yourself won't help
anything!" Mars was upset. "How can you be so selfish? What about your
family, and Reenie?"
"Reenie can go stay with Darien, she likes him better anyway."
"Serena." Jupiter stepped forward. "Remember when Ken was attacked by
that monster and I gave him blood? You asked me not to go fight because
you didn't want me to get hurt. But it would hurt all of us a lot more
if we lost you."
"You mean it?"
"Of course we do. Right guys?" The others nodded. "Now come on, let's
go get some ice cream and talk about how to get Darien back, huh?"
"Okay." I allowed them to lead me away from the bridge, looking back
over my shoulder over the clear, sparkling water.
"I wonder what it would have felt like to fly," I mused to myself.
"What was that, Serena?" Venus asked.
"Oh, nothing. Last one to the ice cream shop has to pay!" We ran down
the street, laughing. Maybe Darien wasn't my world, after all.
