Although that has not stopped some. :(  Plus there are fanfics
that are so OOC that they only have the names in common with the
original.

Original stories aren't all *that* bad.  Some pretty cool ones have come
through the list in recent memory.  Does anyone remember Bugs Bunny vs.
the Borg?

And concerning OOC fanfics...yes, but what if that was the idea in the
first place?  :)
