"Oy, Lina, how come I have to carry all yoru stuff to the next town?",
asks Gourry Gabriev, as he walks alongside the famed sorceress, Lina
Inverse. She screeches to a halt in front of him, stopping him dead in
his tracks with an outstretched hand to his chest armor. "I told you
already! It's that time of the month, and the only way I'll be able to
cast -any- spells is if I don't wear myself out by carrying all that
crap!", she yells back at him.
Gourry scratches his head, as he recalls something of the sort crossing
his mind,"Oh yea, I think I remember, now. Sheesh.. you women and your
problems.." He is assuredly speaking to the dirt under his feet about
.005 seconds after he finishes his sentence, as Lina continues down the
road, brushing the dust off her gloves. "I'm so glad Lina is so
forgiving...", he mumbles under the could of dust.
Meanwhile, far up on a cliff nearly a half-mile away, a pair of theives
watch the two adventurers with ready-made telescopes. The shorter of the
two, just under Gourry's height, spots the Sword of Light slinged across
Gourry's back. "There it is, Tresho.. the Sword of Light. If we can get
our hands on that, we can sell it and make a fortune!". The other bandit
nods in agreement,"You got that right, Valah. And with Inverse in her
current condition, they wont stand a chance!".
Valah peeks all around Lina, looking for an oddity in her features. He
thinks for a moment, then looks at Thresho, "What condition?". Thresho
grabs Valah's telescope, and whacks him with it, and points him toward
Lina and Gourry. "Inverse has been walking in that same stagger-fashion
for the past day or two! And she holds her stomach now and then! It's
her time of the month!". Valah picks up his telescope and checks again.
"Oh yea..now I see it! They're gonners! That sword is gonna be ours in
no time!"
Gourry looks ahead of where they are heading, and sees nothing but
hills, bushes, and grasslands. He sighs, and continues on, trying to
keep up with the young mage ahead of him. "When are we going to reach
this town you're talking about, Lina? I'm getting tired of nothing but
grass all day, and this stuff of yours is getting heavy!". Lina scowls,
and turns her head,"In a day or two! It's in the middle of a forest so
we probably won't be able to see it until that day!"
Gourry nods to Lina, then stops suddenly as his ears twitch. Lina's
eyes perk up, stopping her dead in her tracks, as well. She moves her
head to turn slightly towards Gourry, as her eyes wander, her mind
racing like crazy. "Gourry...how many?", she whispers. He shakes his
head in reply a bit,"I can't tell..only two so far". Lina jumps back, as
Valah pops out of the bushes ahead, landing in her path,"Good afternoon,
Miss Inverse. A pleasure to make your acquaintance.." She smirks at him,
and nods," The pleasure is all yours, I'm sure.."
Thresho emerges from yet another pile of leaves, behind Gourry,"Mr.
Gabriev, I presume.. and his lovely companion". Gourry nods, reaching
for his sword, "What can I do for you gentlemen? It's nice to meet fans,
and personally, I'm flattered." Thresho grins, and draws his
broadsword,"We would like your weapon, Mr.Gabriev. The Sword of Light
would be of much value to us, and we might even be willing to give you
some of our earnings for it if you turn it over willingly".
Lina shakes her head and backs towards Gourry,"Don't do it, Gourry. I
called it first, remember?", she says with a sly grin. Gourry chuckles,
and draws out his sword,"How could I forget. Then, I'll be happy to keep
it in good condition for you." He is quickly interrupted as Thresho
lunges forwards, jumping at him. Gourry raises his sword to defend
against an impending attack. The attack fails to come, as Thresho plows
into Lina from behind, knocking her to the ground.
Gourry turns around to face Thresho, and spots Lina on the ground. He
glares at the bandit with intense anger, and swipes at him, to see the
thief hop to the side. Gourry turns to follow, and they start to clash
swords. Valah, meanwhile, leans down over Lina, drawing out a small
knife, and slices her arm with it, leaving a gash a few inches long.
"Just enough to slow you down. Nothing personal, but we can't have you
interfering, Miss Inverse."
Lina rolls over onto her back, and kicks him in the face, throwing him
back. She then yells "FIREBALL!!!", and throws a ball of flame towards
him, which he dodges with a quick leap to the side. Lina curses, and
smacks the ground with her right fist, then grabs the opposite arm, as
the would flares up in pain."Dammit, I used all the magic I had left,
and he dodged it, and now I'm on my ass. Good luck, Gourry, 'casue
you're probably on your own", Lina whispers to herself. She looks at
Valah, as he starts to chant something, then looks back at Gourry and
Thresho, still fighting. The lock swords, both hanging at each other.
The eyes of Thresho spot his partner behind Gourry, and on the other
side of Lina, and brighten with his grin.
Valah continues casting, and Thresho flips over Gourry, who after he
turns around to follow Thresho, now sees Lina on the ground, and Valah.
Valah finishes his spell, looking at Gourry. Gourry assumes the blast
is meant for Lina, and pushes Thresho aside, as he yells, "Lina!!!!".
Her eyes widen as she sees him approaching her fallen position. She
yells,"Gourry! Get down!', as Valah yells, "MEGA-FIREBALL!!!!", and
throws the blast at the unexpecting Gourry. She grabs for his ankle with
her good arm, but watches as he is hit square with the blast, knocking
him to the ground beside her.
Lina turns to her fallen ally, and sees him motionless. Her eyes tear
up, as she reaches for his sword,"Gourry.....Why?". She closes her eyes
in anger, and then rises to her feet, her left arm dead at her side,
stained red with her blood. In her right hand, she holds the Sword of
Light. As she calls out,"Light, come forth!" The blade falls out of the
sword, as a beam of light comes streaming out, coming to a sharp point
about three feet long, and stays.
Thresho turns to Valah and glares at him. "Why is she still active?".
Valah shrugs, and scratches his head,"I dunno! I mean, look at'er!"
Thresho turns back towards her, and sweats, taking a deep breath. Lina
pants heavily, as she casts a stone glare upon the two. "Damn you both!
I'll make you pay!" Both of their eyes widen at her words as they start
to back off, seeing her battle aura glow a bright red, reflecting the
anger flowing through her mind. They don equally confused looks, as she
starts to chant under her breath.."Brighter than the brightest
nova...sharper than the purest diamond......hotter than the depths of
hell....infuse me with your power.... Show me that I am worthy! Empower
this weapon with your omnipotence, and grant it's owner's wish..."
Valah starts to freak out as he sees her casting the spell. Thresho
looks back at Valah, and yells "What the hell is she doing?". Valah
yells back in frustration,"I dunno! I dunno!". They both turn back to
see what happens, as she finishes her spell. Beams of light have begun
to shoot out from the hilt of the sword, as Lina's aura turns a bright
white, matching the sword's own emination. She brings the sword above
her head, and points it towards the sky, and yells,"Light of
Vengance!!!", as the blade extends up to the sky, shooting up for miles.
Lina then looks back at the two, an swipes at them with the sword, as it
leaves a beam of light in whatever It's previous position was, like a
silhouette, and the beam engulfs the two, as they vanish without a
trace, only their echoing screams remain behind.
