Here's the next section of ReGenesis. I feel like this one is lacking
somehow, but I can't figure out where exactly. C&C is appreciated!

3:2 New Students...

"We're running a little late, Akane," Nabiki said.
Akane sighed. "I know...every morning, I dread this," she groused.
	Rei blinked. "You dread school?"
"It's not school she dreads," Nabiki said, "it's what's waiting for her
when she gets there." At the albino's confused expression, Nabiki added,
"You'll see. Well, I'm going to run on ahead. Bye now!" The elder girl sped
up, closing the gap to the school.
"What was she talking about?" Rei asked.
Akane groaned. "Just some stupidity that's been going on for a while now,"
she said. Before Rei had a chance to ask what was going on, the two of them
approached the gates. Rei frowned. On the other side of the school gates
there seemed to be some sort of mob forming. "Stay back," Akane warned.
"They won't bother you if you don't get involved."
As the two girls entered the gates, the mob gave a daunting, unified roar,
and charged. The surprised Rei leapt up and backwards, landing on the wall
of the courtyard. Akane, for her part, waded into the seething mass of
humanity, and the ominous bellows changed to grunts, moans, and screams of
pain, as bodies began flying out of the pack, along with stray sports
equipment. A hockey stick fell here, its owner landing some five meters
away. A boxer spat three teeth, the last three in his mouth no less, as he
crashed into a tree on the far end of the yard. A football player found
himself on the receiving end of a mighty punt, and scored a field goal over
the central clock tower of the school building.
In under ninety seconds, the mob had been destroyed. The only one who
remained standing was Akane...no, wait. Rei saw two other people on their
feet.
A kendoist wielding a bokken and a red rose stepped from behind a tree,
threw the rose at Akane, and began to make some long-winded speech. Rei
ignored him...someone else had her full attention.
On the other side of the courtyard, safely away from the battle, but with
a great vantage point, a boy in a school uniform leaned back against the
wall of the school building, arms crossed. He had an air of tidiness about
him; his short black hair was neatly combed, and his uniform looked to be
freshly pressed. He smiled thinly as he watched the unfolding conflict. The
morning sun reflected off his glasses as he turned his head slightly to
watch the kendoist dash across the yard, bokken a blur of motion.
Rei blinked, and looked again. Yes, the boy was there alright. He seemed
familiar...too familiar. "Ikari-kun...?"
The albino girl leapt down from the wall, and strode purposefully across
the field of combat toward the other spectator, ignoring the shouts
directed at her from her friend and the onlookers leaning from the second
and third story windows.
The kendoist, whose name she had caught as being Kunou, backed right into
her path as he deflected a kick from Akane. Many shouts rang out, warning
Rei to get out of the way.
What happened next would be remembered forever, for it was unusual even
for Fuurinkan.

Kunou prepared to strike at Akane again, but noticed another person moving
into the line of combat. It was a girl, Akane's age, with pale skin and an
unnatural shade of hair. Kunou began to rant about interruption of combat,
and an insult by an onlooker to a person of nobility, when suddenly he
found himself airborn.
	The crowd, including Akane, gasped.
The bespectacled boy leaning against the building, for his part, grinned
at the display.
"Out of my way," Rei had said to the obtuse Kendoist, before grabbing him
by his gi and heaving him into the air. Without missing a beat, she
continued her stride. Akane looked up, and nimbly stepped aside as Kunou
crashed to the ground, head first. "That...hurt..." he groaned, before
losing consciousness.
The short-haired onlooker suddenly became aware of the fact that this
strange girl was not headed for the door to the school as he had originally
thought, but rather directly for him. While this sank in, he processed the
information available to him at the moment: she was definitely pretty,
although her face was mostly devoid of expression. The pale color of her
skin was somewhat alluring, and he found her hairstyle, not to mention the
color of her hair, intriguing. She stopped a half meter in front of him,
and cocked her head inquisitively. "Shinji?"
The boy blinked. "I beg your pardon?" He noticed the girl from the fight
approaching as well, and hoped she was in a friendly mood.
The albino studied his face for a moment, and repeated, "Shinji?"
He shook his head. "I think you have me confused for someone else," he
said, as he idly reached up with one hand to push his glasses up on the
bridge of his nose.

If Rei had any color to her skin whatsoever, she would have paled. Her
mouth dropped open slightly in shock, and she took a step back away from
the bespectacled youth.

	...it can't be...

	...no, it can't, can it?

	...but it is...

	...are you sure?

	...yes...

Rei took another step back, staring at the confused young man in front of
her. Behind her, Akane gently prompted, "Rei? Are you alright?"
The boy covered a nervous cough, and without removing his hand from his
mouth, said, "Are you alright miss? You look as though you've just seen a
ghost."
Rei took two steps back, eyes wide, mouth slack, clearly in shock.
"Gendou," she whispered.
	Akane frowned. "Gendou? Who's that?"
"I'm afraid I am," spoke the boy leaning against the wall, his voice
betraying confusion. "But as to how your friend knows my name..." he
shrugged. "I've never met her before."
Rei recovered slightly from her shock. "Excuse me," she said, her voice
once again cold and toneless. As dignified as possible, she turned, and
tried not to run to the school entrance.

"Who are you?" Akane questioned the boy as the two of them made their way
into the building.
"My name is Rokubungi Gendou," he said. "I've just transferred here from
Juuban."
"I see. And you're sure you've never met Rei before?"
Gendou shook his head. "I'd remember someone as...unusual as her."
	Akane frowned. "I suppose so..."
Gendou cleared his throat. "Pardon me for asking, but what that commotion
about this morning?"
Akane sighed. "It's all Kunou's fault...listen, not to be rude, but I'm
already late for class..."
Gendou nodded. "A pleasure, Tendou-san. I hope to speak with you again
soon." He headed down a different hallway, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.
That girl, Tendou Akane, was intriguing. Her friend Rei, who had somehow
known his name before he gave it, was even more intriguing. He would have
to find out as much as he could about both of them, and soon...
