Just something that refused to get out of my head when I thunk it, so
here it is...
Galaxy Police Officers Mihoshi and Kiyone slipped through the
sparse woods that dotted the compound belonging to the principal of
their latest arrest warrant. Mihoshi was spluttering out apologies while
Kiyone cursed blackly under her breath. Tensions ran high between the
two officers.
"Mihoshi, if you just *had* to crash our spaceship, why couldn't
you have done it right in the middle of his compound!? We could have
taken advantage of all the confusion to nab him!"
Mihoshi shook her head sadly and uttered a plaintive "Wai!"
"Instead," Kiyone continued bitterly, "you crashed miles away -but
not until after alerting him to our presence with that stupid radio
broadcast telling him he was under arrest! Now we have no choice but to
storm his very base of operations, deal with whatever goon squad he has
on hand, arrest him, and pray to the gods that he has a spaceship
that'll get us off this rock!"
Mihoshi nodded again and tried to apologize. Kiyone ignored her.
**It seems like the entire basis of her vacuous existence is to
make my life miserable,** Kiyone thought bitterly.
* * *
Despite the warning, the compound seemed devoid of any knowledge
that the two GP Officers were even on world. Everything was quiet and
uneventful. Guards kept lazy watch, mostly chatting amongst themselves.
Mihoshi of course was overjoyed. Kiyone wasn't convinced.
"It's a trap," she said evenly.
Mihoshi grinned her empty-headed brightest. "But Kiyone, what if
it's not? What if they think we died in the crash?"
This gave Kiyone some pause. "It's possible, I suppose. Not that we
have much choice, we have to get in there."
"Wai!" Mihoshi cried happily.
Kiyone sighed remorsefully. It just couldn't be that easy.
* * *
It wasn't that easy.
Kiyone looked at the legion of heavily armed guards that had
instantly and silently come out of the woodwork and sighed with the
resignation that comes only after working with Mihoshi for an extended
period of time.
"Weapons please," the man they had come to arrest asked them
pleasantly.
Seeing that they didn't have much choice, the two officers
surrendered their weapons. Mihoshi was close to tears.
Once the weapons were taken care of, the two had their wrists bound
behind their backs with manacles. Their captor gloated at them while
dangling a large caliber gauss pistol in his hand.
"To think I have the great Officer Mihoshi in my clutches," he said
haughtily. "Oh whatever should I do with her...?"
At this point Mihoshi was almost hysterical.
"Wai!" she pleaded. Then she slipped back into tearful babblings.
The effect on their captor was instantly apparent to Kiyone, who was
thinking along similar lines.
"...shut up..." He said.
Mihoshi wailed once.
"...Shut up!..." This time a near desperate order.
"Mihoshi!" Kiyone hissed urgently. "Can it for once!"
Mihoshi continued to blubber, punctuated by the periodically
plaintive "Wai!"
"SHUT UP!!!"
This last shout only made Mihoshi bawl louder.
*KRAK!!!*
Mihoshi uttered a frightened yelp before the ferric slug buried
itself deep within the base of her skull. She pitched over backwards
with a tiny stream of blood arcing across the carpet, to land with the
kind of heaviness that is only associated with inanimate objects -as
Mihoshi had now become. The sudden oppressive silence was broken only by
the strangled cry that escaped Kiyone's lips as she watched Mihoshi die.
Their captor looked down at his freshly discharged pistol in
wonderment, almost as if he was surprised to have shot the GP Officer.
Then he looked to the limp form of the forever silenced Mihoshi lying on
the carpet. Fortunately, the deep shag soaked up the blood rather
efficiently, preventing a big expanding pool of the stuff from forming.
"Wow..." he said. "I really didn't mean to shoot her, but now that
it's all over, I actually feel sort of cleansed..."
"You bastard!" Kiyone hissed at him.
"It's a pity really," the man went on as if he hadn't heard
Kiyone's epithet. "I just got this brand new torture chamber installed,
and I really wanted to try it out on the two of you. Most of the gear is
just too intense for one person to survive all of it at once."
He sighed sadly.
"I was sort of hoping to split the machines between the two of you
-that way I could try everything out at once. Now..."
He sighed again before striking a gleefully evil pose.
"I guess this means I'll have to send you through everything
gradually."
Kiyone's heart sank.
"I guess your friend lucked out. She got an instant death, whereas
yours will be slow, lingering, and absolutely wretched. Them's the
breaks, I guess."
As they led Kiyone away to her fate, she took one last look back to
the lifeless body of Galaxy Police Officer Mihoshi. Rigor mortis
wouldn't set in for hours to come, and yet it seemed as if there was the
faintest grin on Mihoshi's lips.
**You just had to screw me over one more time didn't you...**
Kiyone thought darkly. **Once more for old time's sake... You'd better
pray there's no afterlife, Mihoshi...**
THE END
Mihoshi/Kiyone fans may rend at will.
