I've come to one of two conclusions. Either Love is What has lost its
readership somewhere along the line or else I have fatally offended the
entire mailing list and shall be shunned for life.

Hopefully it's the former, as that is easier to fix.
I wouldn't worry about it. I have a strong theory on the whole C&C thing.
I'll expand on that in a moment.

I'd like to avoid past mistakes. If someone could tell me why this series
was mostly ignored, I'll try to fix it.

What happens is that people see the first part of a story and say, "Wow!
That's cool! I like it. Keep going."

Now that you've been suitably inspired, you continue... and never hear
anything again.

The cause: They are reading it (and probably enjoying it). They just don't
think that they have to send you comments for every part that comes out.
As far as your readers are concerned, they've already told you they love
your work. Why should they repeat themselves? It makes them sound like
fanboys/girls. Unfortunately, it leaves you (the author) in the lurch
asking yourself, 'What happened?'

Just keep going. If you're like me, you're writing these stories for
yourself as much as it is for the readers. Don't be discouraged by the
lack of responses. If you can go back and read your own story and say
to yourself, "I like it," then it isn't so bad.

Besides, I'm just trying to get all these damned ideas out of my head.
^_^

I know what you're getting at though. I recently posted a continuation to
something that got some positive responses as well as a request for more.
The sequel got zero feedback.

I'm afraid you're dealing with human nature. You're just going to have to
live with it. Sorry.
