This -is- a work in progress (delayed by several factors including SF
Collection and KOF'96 ^.-), and it's not even nearly a fourth complete.
But I need to know how far off my characterization of Yakumo is.

Author's Notes:
This is the first Sazan Eyes fanfiction I've attempted; while I do
love the series, I have not had the opportunity to obtain any of the
manga; thusly, I'll be using the anime timeline/storyline (ending after
Series II), out of a lack of desire to read the manga translations (and a
lack of time). Because I have no real knowledge of events after that time,
this is where the 'canon' storyline ends; and I'm extrapolating and
making up from there. Mainly that Parvati IV has recently returned to the
Earth Realm, after approximately six months or so; and that Ayanokouji
Yohko (nickname, Pai) has attached herself to Yakumo. Yakumo is... well,
Yakumo, so he finds it hard to push her away at times, although he's
working towards the goal of being 'just friends' with her, at least while
he waits for Parvati IV to return. Yakumo's taken a few oddjobs and more
recently a part-time job working in an office to support himself (insofar
as a living area and food are concerned).
Vampire Hunter (known as Darkstalkers:Nightwarrior's Revenge in the
United States) is a Capcom game, a 'fighting' game immersed in and using
many of the 'horror' and 'mystical' archetypes for characters. Each
character is based on a myth or mythological being, such as the succubi,
lycanthropes, vampires and the like. The premise of Vampire Hunter is
that each Darkstalker fights to gain supremacy and achieve their dreams;
for two of them, that is as simple as destroying all the Darkstalkers for
personal revenge.
Of course, I do not own Sazan Eyes or Vampire Hunter, nor the rights
to each of them; <name here> owns Sazan Eyes, and Capcom holds the rights
to Vampire Hunter.

Chapter 1 -- Enter the Shadows
Alighting to the top of one of the many buildings in Tokyo, a
cloaked figure gazed out over the never-still city. <I'll never
understand what this world holds for my Wu.> With a sigh, she raised her
staff and summoned Fei-Oh. The giant flying jaw, for lack of a better
description, hovered, waiting for its master to mount.
Parvati IV sighed, turning her head to the full moon, then stepped
onto her faithful beast and commanded Fei-Oh to fly off. She had someone
to find.

Tired. That about described this young man's state of mind; he was
very tired. Work always left him so, he was beginning to get used to
this.
"Well, time to head home," he mused, "and get a few hours of sleep."
He decided that this routine of work, sleep, and school was getting to
him. "I'll talk to my advisors tomorrow." Yep, he really must be going
off his rocker. He was talking to himself.
As he stepped off, heading down a street lit only by the sodium
streetlamps, never would he have dreamt about what was about to happen to
him. It was a sure thing he was going to have nightmares for the rest of
his life, though.
About twenty yards ahead was an alley. It being late at night, it
was a dark alley, convienently placed so that the light from the
streetlamps reached maybe a foot into the dark corridor. Our young man,
the subject of this scene, passed by it, whistling a happy little song.
This was cut off by the massive hand that closed around his neck.
Our young man, let's call him... Ryuji, felt himself be lifted to
approximately fifty feet off the ground. At least, it felt like that
much. In reality, it was perhaps two feet.
"Gaaahhhhkkk--" was Ryuji's intelligent, thesis-level reply. To his
surprise, his accoster started stepping towards the lights. <This isn't
usual... what's this guy got on his mind?> Ryuji was rightly confused,
and then, when he saw the face that the hand around his neck belonged to,
he fainted.
Demitri's twin fangs shone in the light, like twin, evil scythes.
"I'm here on business... but I want a snack." Then he laughed, and
laughed. Had Ryuji bothered to stay awake, he would have been forever
scarred by the sight of the vampire's fangs descending to his neck.

Morning. Yakumo took no note of this, at all. Well, not until golden
sunlight shone full into his face, heating that part of his body and
making him have a quick dream about the Circles of Hell. It was rather
pleasant, really. Opening his eyes wasn't. <ITAI! I've really gotta move
my bed...> Yakumo closed his eyes again; thankfully, his tendency to keep
his eyes as closed as possible aided him in defeating morning
sun-blindness.
<Another day, another dollar.. I wonder when Pai... no, Parvati....
will return.> Yakumo stretched, and winced, when, too late, the alarm
decided it was 6:30 A.M. and announced it to the room with a loud,
caterwauling sound. Yakumo noticed nothing unusual with his morning
newspaper (a welcome change from when some mystical prankster had
enchanted his newspaper to turn into a doglike creature), until he turned
to the inside page of the local section.
"No Clues Yet in Mysterious Murder..." At first, Yakumo only
skimmed. Things such like these didn't necessarily interest him; he was
no superhero. But things began to catch his eye, little details. "..
victim's body apparently drained of blood.." Yakumo slowed down his
reading pace. "... victim is twenty-two year old Yagami Ryuji, a senior
college student at Nekomi Technical Institute." Only the slight
twisting of Yakumo's head from right to left betrayed the fact that the
young man was concentrating. "Yagami was apparently on his way home,
when he was allegedly accosted... although there are no visible wounds,
the coroner claims that the body holds no blood in the circulatory
system, as if someone slit his wrists, collected the blood, then
healed the wounds..." "The on-site detectives are quoted as saying,
'This is possibly one of the strangest crimes we've seen around here.'"
Yakumo folded the paper up. "Vampires. Interesting..." He stared
off into space, forgetting about work as he concentrated. <Vampires...>

It had been just after Pai had disappeared that first time; Yakumo
had scoured the earth looking for her, to no avail. One of the many
places he had ended up searching for her was in a remote area of Russia;
reputedly, a powerful psychic warrior was there, and Yakumo had wanted
to ask her help.
<It's cold here... too cold...> Yakumo rubbed his hands together,
then blew on them; the thick brown wool wasn't helping, being sweat- and
waterlogged. According to his information, this village was where the
psychic was at the moment. He intended to get her help.
A head popped out from the hut Yakumo stood before. {Master, the
psychic will see you now.} Yakumo looked confused, but 'aah'ed when the
direction indicated to him was inside the hut.
The soft, musical voice that greeted Yakumo's ears (his eyes were
still adjusting from the dimness of outside to the relative brightness
of the firelit hut) surprised him with perfect Japanese. "Hello, Fujii
Yakumo. I presume you have come because of your duty?"
Surprise, then a rueful grin crossed Yakumo's lips. "Hai,
Rose-sama." Yakumo kneeled on the hard dirt floor, still rubbing his
hands together. His disappointment was clearly transmitted by the way
his head hung at her next words.
"Gomenasai. I cannot help you." Rose frowned; Yakumo had the
brief thought that even her frown gave her a cold beauty, like a marble
statue. "Her power is so great that I could not possibly hope to
penetrate her defenses."
Yakumo stood up. "Arigato, Rose-sama. I'll... keep searching."
Rose nodded, then held up a hand.
"Wait, Fujii-san. Perhaps you can help me?" Rose looked
thoughtful. "The people of this village are kind, and helpful, but they
do not have the skills I need to aid in my current... problem."
"I suppose I could. It's not like I'm going to find her anytime
soon..." Those despondent words were met with a chuckle.
"I believe you'll find her before you know it." Rose's voice and
gaze turned serious. "Now then. The root of the problem here is a man
called Demitri Maximoff..." Carefully, she reconsidered her words.
"Not a man. A vampire. He is powerful, very much so, and uses this
village, and many surrounding ones, as his food herd." There was a
significant pause. "I believe you can help me defeat him."
