As someone already said, it's a series of novels by Piers Anthony.

However, nobody said anything (yet) about what *kind* of novels, although
you may have been able to figure some of it out.
To be more specific, the Xanth novels are a fantasy series with a heavy
does of humor - puns almost literally run rampant through the <*whack!*>

As I *THINK* I have now demonstrated, the Xanth novels are full of puns -
not *usually* as bad as that. ^.^;; Plants, animals, and sometimes
(frequently?) characters have punny names, and many situations involve
puns of some kind.

Of course, Takahashi is pretty handy with puns herself. Considering it in
that light, perhaps a Ranma/Xanth crossover is indeed an idea whose time
has come.
