You make a good point.

However, I've got another counter one.

Has anyone ever indicated otherwise that the Yoma are more then just 
automated, non living things?

Example: The way Luna describes the Yoma in the first few episodes, 
she gives pretty big insinuations that they aren't alive.  She 
probably did this so Usagi would "dust" them without guilty feelings.


Now, I know you're going to say "What about Kunzuite/Malachite and 
Mettalia plus all the other season enders?"

My answer to that, she was in "Serenity Mode" at the time with 
Kunzuite and acctually was only defending herself (Kunzuite died 
because he never took a deflection into account) as for Mettalia and 
all the other season enders, the bad guys escalated the battles to 
where she had to bring her powers up to deadly levels to survive.
