people, except insofar as how he can use them to serve his own purposes.

	There's a thing about that. The way I see it, Gendou _needs_ to be
like that. He is in charge of, essentially, saving the human race from
extinction (or, so it seems...watch Evangelion to find out), so he has to
be ruthless in pursuing that. Although I still dislike him, at least I can
understand him.
	A bit of symbolism, here: Note how he is always pushing his
glasses up back on the bridge of his nose. I see that as symbolizing how
he has to keep focused on the goal, despite all the terrible, seemingly
inhumane things that must result. Note also that often, when he's pushing
up his glasses, he talks behind his hand, somewhat obscuring what he says.
That seems to be how his actions, when he keeps that goal in focus, seems
to obscure the purpose behind them, making him seem so despicable.
	_This_ is what happens after a year of AP English Literature. @_@
