   Hello all!

Here's version 2 of "Dream of an Angel.
Special thanks to Tom Rothamel of the Eva ML for the C&C.

Changes: Changed "Crystal Knights" to "Crystal Guardians."
  Which should I use?

  Here goes....

Prologue 1: Dream of an Angel
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

      Rei Ayanami was dreaming.

Not that this is an unusual fact, for all living creatures dream
at one point or another.

But, maybe because of her life, her dreams were a bit...unusual.
Heck, for Rei, dreaming was a unusual thing, she practically explained
to her by Asuka.
At some point every night, she would be reliving
memories of her former lives. Of course, she had been rejecting those
memories, believing that they were foreign, taking up space reserved
for her own conscious mind, her own individuality. Normally she would
have no problems with this.
But despite any possible objections of
hers, every night, when her guard was lowered, her memories sped past
her at a rate that a conscious mind could barely tolerate:

-- Her "death" at the hands of Dr. Akagi.
-- Meeting Shinji and Asuka.
-- Numerous Angel attacks.
-- Commander Ikari.
-- Her "second death" when she destroyed Eva-00 to protect Shinji.

And so it went, night after night: death, life, and conflict...until
one night.

On that night, Rei remembered something new.

-- "It smells like Ikari-kun."
-- "We have seen the world through each other's eyes."

*Where did that come from?* Rei thought in suprise. The last image
she recognized were a pair of glasses that then were crushed by some
unseen force. The everything was covered in a silvery-white glare.

When the glare faded, Rei was looking at ruins of some sort. The
sky was pitch black, with stars shining everywhere. Around her were
the aforementioned ruins stretching out to the horizion, which was
brown and craggy, so unlike Earth's green and blue colorings.
"Where am I?" Rei said, looking around. "This must be Earth, but
how?" An insight came to her. "The Human Complementation Project.
Somehow, this has to be the Earth after the Project's completion."
"It is not, although you are close." another voice suddenly said.
Rei turned around. "Who is there?" she asked. "That is not
important now." the voice replied. "But remember this well. For this
is the past of one age, the present of another age, and the future of
another age will be born here."
To say that Rei was puzzled would be a grand understatement. "I
do not understand. Who are you?"
The voice came back, this time sounding slightly disappointed.
"You don't need to understand now, although I had hoped you might.
Just remember this Rei Ayanami, that the future of the human race may
be in its darkest hour. You have a choice: To save the human race, or
to lead it on a one way path to exinction."
"But the Project's purpose is to evolve humanity..." Rei said.
"Yes, to a form devoid of the qualities that make mankind special. My
time grows short. The choice is yours. Choose wisely, Rei Ayanami..."
And with that, the voice faded. Rei was looking around for the source
of the voice when an object appeared in front of her. "A white rose?"
she said. "Here?" She touched toe rose, and the glare filled her
reality again.

     And Rei woke up.

Asuka Soryuu-Langley woke up, dreaming of a white rose. "Damn
that Angel..." she muttered as she went back to a troubled sleep.

Toji Suzuahara woke up after dreaming of a white rose. He
promptly went back to sleep.

Shinji Ikari woke up after having nearly the same dream. But his
was different. In his dream, a beautiful princess said: "You are
destined to play a part in mankind's future. Remember that in the days
to come." The other thing different about his dream concerned the
white rose. In his dream, it had been Rei who had been holding that
white rose. And she was *smiling*....
And he woke up. "Must have been Misato's cooking again." he
muttered, and went back to a troubled sleep.

--Somewhere else--

"She doesn't remember." someone said in despair. "Don't worry,"
another voice said, "she will in time. And then everything will be all
right, you'll see."
The speaker then looked somewhere else. "Now
Wasshu," she said, "are you sure that these devices won't mess up the
ENTIRE space time continuum. I still remember the mess I had to clean
up from your Dinemsional Space-Time Controller!"
    "Hey, relax Pluto!"
Wasshu said. "These Temporal Displacement Generators will work like a
charm. Just remember who you're dealing with!" The puppets came out
of hiding:
Puppet A: "The greatest genius...
Puppet B: "...in the universe!!"

Sailor Pluto tightened her grip on her staff. *I wish she didn't
use those damn puppets.* she thought. *Maybe Saturn can....nah, that
would be overkill. Oh well...*
Giving the third being in the room reassurances, Sailor Pluto
created a time portal and stepped through, carrying a large satchel
with her....

Next time: What is Pluto doing with those generators? And what will it
mean for the Senshi and the Crystal Guardians? Find out in "Setting
the Stage" the next story in the "Destiny's Path" series!

--Author's Notes (or: A guide to Version 2 madness...)--

Okay, like I said, tell me what you think. Unless I get C&C (not
nitpicking) in a week, I'll probally declare this to be the final
version and send it to RAAC.

Same notes from Version 1, including the white rose threat.

In the C&C, someone questioned my interpetation of the HCP. I'll
keep this short and sweet: when I saw the description of Third Impact
and the resulting events (on a couple of spoiler pages, along with the
current discussion on the Eva ML (semi-plug), I could only
thing on one word to describe a collective: Borg. (Yes, I still watch
ST, no flames please) That's all I'll say on the subject for now.
/rant mode off.

Anyway, like I said before, if anyone has problems with me using
"Crystal Guardians" in the story, speak up.

Expect the next part to come out in three or four weeks, depending
on school and work.

No, I don't like spam mail. How did you know? :-)
