It was if it never happened, but it did happen. It almost certainily did
happen. At least that's what she belived, though no one else would back
her up on this. For she could almost swear that for a moment she saw a
Japanese character, the only Japanese character she really knew. The one
for Demon, one of many for the mythical creatures in Japanese myths. And
for a slight second, that character had appeared on the back of the Ki on
the man inside the ring. At least she swore it happened, it all happened
to fast for her to be clear on it she would later add to herself.
It happened, or so she believed, on a quiet summer sunday day. She and her
friends were at a park where they practiced the arts. She was lucky after
all, having such a qulified Sensei come over from the orient to help teach
them. Of course it was a lark, just to excerise and do something cool and
fun. But the Sensei knew this, knew they did not have the dedication to
the art that he did, but he did not care. He enjoyed the youthfull energy
of the kid's, and he hoped that one of them, just one of them would become
serious enough in the art to continue on in the training. But until then
he would enjoy the relaxing company and share with them the basics of his
art, the art of Shotokan.
And like always, they met on Sunday with the sun shining down from above
on the students and the teacher. But it was not like always, for the
Sensei seemed rushed. Oh, he was still relaxed, but she thought he was
rushing the lesson, almost pushing home his points like they where his
last words. And after the Kata's and the speach, the Sensei sat the class
on the ground to mediate before uttering one more word, "Come".
And at the time, she thought that meant for one of the Students to come
attack him, to show him what they had learned. And today she was
determined for it to be her, to actually throw the master from his rest
position. But it didn't happen, though not for the usual reasons. For
before she could strike she got with a glimmar in her eye the Kana for
'Demon' flare up and could swear that someone or something, maybe a oni,
attacked her sensei in the blink of the eye. But it really didn't happen,
for the Sensei just had a heart attack. That's what the doctors said, and
that's what was written the report. After all a person of his age
shouldn't really be straining themselves with weekly martial arts lessons.
And for her, it was perfectly reasonable explination. Except for the fact
that she swore she saw the figure, the Kana, and the Demon hit her Sensei.
She could almost clearily hear the laughter, a quiet laughter that somehow
echoed to her. And she could almost swear, that in the end just before her
Sensei died she saw a smile on his lips. And he mouthed the words
'Learn..Learn' to her.
It was after then that she began to take the arts seriously.....

Chapter 1: Global Fights, Personal fights...
Every city had one, it was almost a given when you crammed people into one
small area. It wasn't the bad area of town, it wasn't the rich area of
town, it was the weird area of town. Perhaps best described as a mixture
of the worst of a Stephan King novel mixed with the zaniness of a
slapstick comedy, a weird area of town did one thing. It collected weird
people.
Tokyo had one such place, perhaps even two or three with it's size. But
they had died down after awhile, or perhaps the public didn't care about
them passing them over for the latest news getting district, the district
that had more bang for it's buck. For Tokyo, that current place was
Nerima, home of everything to zany martial arts fights to mecha, to lord
knows what else. Nobody really cared though, no one was hurt and it made
for damn fine TV. After all the ratings went through the roof when ever a
live shot was done in Nerima, and with high ratings came....
Not that it mattered for Yotsuya-san, as he was currently spying on the
young college Student Godai in the hopes of gaining some incriminating
evidience. Perhaps he could find the infor needed to crack the infamous
'Sazuka bank' robbery case. Or maybe, just maybe Godai could be the linked
to the famous group of Cat Burglars known as Cat's Paw, or tail, or
whatever. Or perhaps even more unlikely, he could get that bowl of instant
Ramen he was eying for over a week. Quitely Yotsuya-san primed his small
tap recorder, the one he needed for his job, and started to tape young
Godai. After all nobody said they couldn't use his tape recorder for
personal use, and he was sure nobody would mind at his job, espically....
"Why thank you, this room is perfect," was all he got from his spying next
door, which wasn't the usual dream Godai had. But then that wasn't Godai's
usual voice, no Yotsuya-san thought, it was to masculine, to self assured.
It sounded like the voice had confidence in itself, which would never be
Godai's voic. Even in a thousand years.
"Hmm, this calls for some investigating.." The thought slowly passed his
lips as he began to inspect the wall across the room, looking for a place
to perhaps eavsdrop or even drop in. "Yes, droping in is the more polite
thing to do. I will pay a visit to my new neighbor." And with that,
Yotsuya-san slowly began to pay a visit to his neighbor, by putting a hole
in the wall between his and the new tennants room. "Ahem, Excuse me I'm
your neighbor Yotsuya-san, It's a pleasure to meet you.."
The two people looked at him with varying expressions, the women just
looked down and shrugged her shoulders. The man looked on in a bit of
amazmement before he remembered where he was. It was Nerima, weird stuff
happened here and he was used to it. After all he had lived here before.
"Hmm, it's seems we have a rather big new tenant, Kyoko-san. I wonder what
young Godai would think of him." And with his eye's looking like they had
gears turning in them, he quickly vanished through the hole with out a
good bye.
"An Intresting man, isn't he?"
"You don't know the half of it," Kyoko paused to brush her apron on it.
She must remember to talk to Yotsuya-san about the cost of repairing these
holes, espically the one's in the temporary suite's. Besides she really
hated Stucco on her apron. "Anyway, you wanted to me to show you the out
side of the place, ahh, what was your name again?"
"Ryu, you can call me Ryu Kyoko-san..." And at that moment Kyoko could
almost swear she saw a faint brezze go through the room, sweaping up
leaves as it passed through. She would have to check the ventilation, she
thoughy...Yet another thing on the list of many other things that are
worng and will go wrong with Maison Ikkoku Kyoko thought. "Any way, can
you show me the way out side?"
"Okay, sure..." Taking one more peak at the room, she quickly decided
against boarding up the walls. As long as Yotsuya-san was intrested there
was nothing she could do to stop him so why waste the money. "We have a
small backyard, but I hope you'll find it to your liking."
"I don't need anything to big, just a small place to practice some
Kata's."
"Ahh, so your..."
"A WHAT IS WITH KYOKO!!!" Is what finished the statement as the premature
wake up call went through Maison Ikkoku. "KYOKO!!!" Godai yelled as his
if his life depended on it, which from the way he was running down the
stairs was almost like it did. Unfortuntely he wasn't able to stop in time
before he ran into Ryu. "Agh...Gomen...Your...Your...Your..."
"So Big, that's what your trying to say through your stammers Godai-kun,"
Akemi commented as she descended the stairs in a rather frilly night gown
that was anything but decent. "Well, Well...Do we have another horse in
the Kyoko love stakes...Hmmm.."
"No, it's not like that...Really.." But Kyoko knew all to well that it was
in vain to try and argue with Akemi. Besides Ichinoise-san would be out
soon to join in on the gossip. It was better to just let it run it's
course and hope beyond hope that the new tenant didn't run away screaming.
It was a small hope, but she hoped none the less.
But Ryu had a faint smile on his face, a grin even. Ahh, there's no place
like home he thought as he turned to leave, stopping to look at Godai who
was just sitting there and shaking. "Your....Your...." was all he could
muster as he had the look that his life had flashed before his eye's again
and again. Ryu just shrugged and went outdoors, because he really did have
to start his training for the day..."
"Hmm...Me thinks Young Godai is in shock," Yotsyua added as he slurped on
instant ramen. "Oh well, I'm sure he wouldn't hurt you that much
Godai-kun..."
"Hey, isn't that the new flavour of Ramen they sold out off...I thought
Godai had the only one here," Akemi asked with some intrest.
Yotsuya just continued to slurp, "Young Godai decided to show some
generosity to me, and I couldn't pass it up." And with that Yotsuya
decended the stairs to catch a closer look at there new tenant.
***********
It was a dead end really, Goto-san thought as he puffed on his cigarrette.
The video tapes showed no labor activity at all, in fact they showed
nothing. Just one minute a construction yard, and the next minute a
wrekage. Under the circumstance one could understand why the Labor Unit
would be called out, but they weren't needed it. It was just one of those
fluke happenings. A coincidence, really...But Goto-san never really
believed in coincidence's...
"So have you found anything on the tape yet?" Nagumo asked as she looked
over Goto-san's shoulder. He responded by taking another long puff on his
smoke, and shrugged his shoulders. "I've think I've seen Ultraman on some
of the consuction site tools, but beyond that nothing much." With that he
exhaled, and put the remaining half of the cigarrette in the ash tray.
"Beyond the 2 or 3 flickers on the tape..."
"What's so Important about that?"
"Nothing, I just wondered why they all happened just before the
destruction at the work site."
"Well Camera's do flicker some of the time, so you shouldn't really worry
about it." And with that, Shinobu quickly turned off the TV. "Besides,
we've got some work to do including the placement of the 3rd unit
Goto-san..."
"Hai, Hai, Shinobu-san!!" And as he walked over the desk, he quickly
picked up a pencil and started to draw.
"What are you doing?"
"Practicing Caligrophy, wanna guess what the character is?"
"Isn't that the character for 'Demon'? Why are you showing me this
Goto-san?"
"No reason, Shinobu-san," Goto replied as he sat back in his chair
prepairing to light yet another smoke. "No reason at all..."
