I'm lucky that I got over trusting people online a year or so after I
started using the internet.

Trust no-one. ;p

Unless you know them very well, longer than a year or so, talked to them
on the phone, etc etc etc ...

Either that, or give each person the amount of trust that they have put
in you. Normally people who are untrustworthy don't place their trust
in others, because they think that everyone would be like them.
