"Itadaku" (the root word of "itadakimasu") is a formal word meaning
"to partake of".  It is considered rude not to say "itadakimasu" before
partaking of something you have been offered (food, mostly, but also
drink).  It can be interpreted as a kind of grace, but it is solely a
politeness; there is no mystic or spiritual meaning attached to it AFAIK.

One of the more "in your face" uses of the words in anime I've seen
recently was in one of the early Evangelion episodes, where Shinji moves
into Misato's apartment.  I think it might even have been episode 1.
