I'm not sure what the rules are on songfics, so I was hoping someone could
enlighten me.

Songfics are fanfiction written around the original lyrics of a song.  If
it's rewriting the lyrics to suit anime, then it's a filk.

Songfics can range from music videos put to paper all the way to more complex
plots, but they all revolve around the jyrics.
