As I suspected, mostly due to the "announcement" note I posted
beforehand, my somewhat rushed original story nevertheless generated
a veritable mountain of C&C.
So, here's the conclusive results of the *real* test:
-Giving advance warning that you intend to write an original story
before dumping it on people may produce slightly better results.
-People are, as I've discovered, going to be more receptive to an
original story if it's written by someone who has at least a few
"noteworthy" fanfics under his belt. (cries out in pain as the
collective FFML tries to jab sharp needles into his ego)
Here's what I think:
If you're a new writer, and you want to do an original story, fine...
but do a few good fanfics first. If you write a few well-planned,
well-written fics, and people react to them favorably, *then* post
your original story, and it's far more likely to generate C&C.
That's just my opinion, but considering the feedback I've gotten for
Yume to Kibu so far, it's got some validity to it.
