Hmmm...  Interestingly enough, about half of the BGC 'fics I've read have
authors who either ignore or deny the canonicality (?) of Bubblegum Crash!
I can't say one way or the other; I haven't seen it.  Does your view of
"rewriting history" insist that the same characters/events show up, or is
it all right to start mid-way through the story and just run however you
want from there?

What is or what was canonical in the BGC universe is pretty much eqivalent
to what is or was canonical in the Dirty Pair universe.  In short, there is
a lot of conflicting information about both series.  Both Crash and AD
Police take up contrary positions to the canon developed in Crisis.  AD
Police even introduces extraneous regular characters like Jeena Malso to
the storyline that somehow have to be taken into account when one considers
its position as a "prequel" to Crisis.  Then there is the Adama storyline
in Crash that is totally at odds with the concepts of self-aware, sentient
Bumas like Sylvie and Anri....  And yet we tend to lump all these bits
together as if they'd fit into a perfect jigsaw because they're all
supposed to be part of the BGC storyline.

I'm quite sure, if you studied the storylines of any long (or short)
running series like Ranma or Sailormoon that you could find blaring
continuity faults and inconsistencies that are just waiting to be
capitalized on.  No series is without them.  So writing a fic with OOC
characters in it should be no big problem....

But there will always be nitpickers in this world.
