Well, at least you get something. That's something in it's own

about that. Heck, I'm one of them.

I'd rather get nothing than someone telling me why my story sucks
because
they want to have a go at me. Heck, if no-one says anything, at least
Good lord, who does that? I've never really been flamed, GOD
knows I
write the sort of fics that would (Suicide Blast, Final Embrace,
Mousse's Fun with Fettellio, Nightmares in the Daylight) so maybe I
don't really know what your talking about. Still, flames would almost be
appreciated these days. It'd at least let me know I wasn't being
killfiled.

I
feel I haven't offended anyone. It also could mean that nobody has
read
the bloody thing either, but I'm not complaining.

Heh, I used to think the same thing. Give it some time, you'll find
silence is NOT golden... it's not even lead.

I have found that a good way to attract C&C is to do some of it
yourself. I mean if more than two people are complaining that there
story hasn't gotten any c&c then that means they havent been doing it
themselves. Right?

As sound and rightgeous as that statement is, it's not really what
we're talking about. I know full well my own stake and responsibility in
getting C&C. I DO C&C when I get the chance and I know that if my story
isn't getting read or noticed, it's because I need to work HARDER! No,
this thread is about whether or not Bad C&C can be good C&C. I stand by
my earlier statements. If they say it sucked ONCE, then they are simply
not worth your time other then to pride yourself that you have the
ability to hook people in long enough for them to hate your work. If
they say it sucked TWICE, then you have snagged a reader for life. ^_^

I find the problem with sending C&C, as opposed to receiving it, is not
really knowing what to say once you've read a fic. Some fics that have
atrociously bad spelling often come with the byline that they are first
drafts... So one can barely complain in that kind of situation.... And
defining quality of story and characterisation has never been my strong
point....

On top of that is the sheer number of fics that get posted. I don't always
have the opportunity to read one day's worth of postings.... And sometimes
one week's worth.... Let it slip like that and you end up with so much
stuff to read you get turned off at the thought of it. Even worse, a lot
of it is still Ranma and Sailormoon stuff (although its branching out now)
so you get a little tired of the same old stuff being trotted out again and
again.

I'll give C&C to a fic that I regard as having qualities that demand it, on
top of which is the motivation to do so.
