Maybe it's just me, but I can't see why *anyone* would want to read
an out-of-character fanfic. As someone else pointed out, there's
more to a character than just a name. With the obvious exception of
parody, if the author keeps the name and throws out the qualities
that go with it, what's the appeal of the story?
One of the greatest standards of an piece of literature is that the main
character(s) change. That's what makes you feel for the character, you
are with him/her as they undergo new experiences which institute change.
Addmittadly, it's often no fun if the character starts out as OOC,
without letting you (the reader) experience what they have in becoming
OOC.
But even so, sometimes the author needs the situations that a current
storyline poses more than the characters in order to create a new
experience for the reader. Something that will spark our interest as the
current character personalities might not do.
