I think the reason why this fic has a slightly remote quality is
clear.  It's all written from Akane's perspective, even though
the problem is pretty much entirely Ranma's.  I mean Akane never
even knew Ranma before his transformation.  From Akane's perspective
Ranma is just a girl with a weird hang-up about her sexuality, 
regardless of her intellectual knowledge to the contrary.  That
means that we are experiencing everything at one remove.  Akane
isn't all that upset about the sexual assault since it wouldn't
have frightened, it would have made her angry and then it would
have made the perpetrator very sorry.  Akane is only upset by
Ranma's reaction, one that she only partially understands.
