Well, this is a fairly interesting beginning, though I think there should be a
little more foreshadowing (by which I mean, more of a clue as to what's
going on).  I found it a little difficult to follow why the characters acted the
way they did given the situation, and perhaps some more hints as to
what has happened previously would make it more readable.

Also, you need to work on your pronouns.  Too frequently, you use "he"
and "his" where you meant "she" or "hers".
