You know, that was kind of a morbid post ^_^...

But I have to agree with you. I, as well, have done a bit of practise
with the katana, both daishyo and ninjato, although I would hardly
call myself skilled. I could, if need be, defend my home from a
burglar with my sword...that's about it. I'm much better with a staff.

Anyway...points I intend to bring up:

1) It's true that the katana is balanced so that it can be, with a
little practice, wielded one-handed. It certainly possesses more
cutting power if you apply two hands to the grip, but it can still be
a deadly weapon if used with only one hand.

2) Proven fact: the katana is the sharpest sword in the world, if the
edge is properly tempered and maintained. (Mine, sadly, are not...)
However, even with this fact, it takes a lot of skill and training on
the part of the wielder to be able to take advantage of the blade's
sharpness. You have to know what you're doing to dismember or
decapitate anyone with a katana. They're designed for style and swift
striking, and not for power. (Like I always say, if you only care
about power, get a two-hander, or a claidhmore...)
