                            General Production Fault

By Matthew.Lewis@yale.edu

I'm afraid I don't know who Oh! My Goddess belongs to, but rest assured
it isn't me.

I'd missed dinner. Not that missing dinner is odd around finals,
with the dinning halls closing at seven, I'd often look up from a paper I
was typing to see it was dinner time for the rest of the Eastern Seaboard,
and thus too late for me to eat. That would assume that I wanted to eat
the dining hall's food, of course. Not exactly a given when half your
grade rests on the paper you're writing. Especially if this is your
chance to pass the course.

Not that it wasn't a nice course. Language and logic had a good
professor, my TA was half decent, and I had lots of interesting reading.
LOTS of interesting reading that somehow got pushed back to, well,
yesterday.

So it wasn't much a surprise when I worked through dinner. Problem
was I'd worked through lunch too, and simply slept through breakfast. So
when my stomach made it known it would not accept another can of Coke in
leu of food, I had to order out.

Now I was sure that I dialed the pizza place. I mean, I'd dialed it
hundreds of times before, no problem. Admittedly, I'd never done it with
that much caffeine in my body, but my hand didn't shake that much.

However it happened, instead of hearing a bored voice say 'Dominos,
how can I help you?' I get, "You've reached the Goddess Relief Office, one
of representatives will be by shortly." Then the connection goes dead.

My first thought was hunger induced delirium. My second was 'I still
don't have any pizza. Try that number again. Then the girl stepped out
of my monitor. She was tall, with bronze skin, white hair, and a body
that was sexier than anyone else I'd seen. I didn't help that most
swimsuits had more cloth than her dress. Luckily my any embarrassing
reaction I might have had was swallowed up by two competing thoughts:

Shock- a women stepped out of my monitor

Relief- having gone insane, I wouldn't have to finish my paper or
study for finals

"Sorry, you're not insane," she said. "Let's make this quick. I'm a
goddess-" I nodded, sure about that part. "That's Goddess with a capital
G! Listen up: yes I am reading your mind, and it's so I can grant you the
wish you correctly. So hurry up and wish for your heart's desire, and I
can go home."

"How do I know you're real?" I asked. Hell, if she could prove that
one I'd have my Senior thesis right there.

"No freebies, if that's your wish, then say 'I wish I knew if you are
real,'" she said with a smile. It wasn't a nice, how-clever-he-is!,
smile it was more of a go-ahead-and-waste-your-wish smile.

That annoyed me. I've always been a bit thin skinned, and I wanted
to hit back. Problem is, she's a Goddess. I suppose I could've wished
for her to stay with me, but I didn't think binding myself to an angry
Goddess would be a good idea. So I figured I'd be annoying, and get my
philosophy paper out of it in the bargain too.

"All right," I said, "I wish my wish won't be granted." That's when
the world stopped.

"You idiot!" a, well, wrathful Goddess screamed as she stormed
towards me (and I mean stormed, with thunder and lightning). "You locked
up Yggdrasil!"
