Memories

**Chapter 1	The awakening

I woke up and looked around realising that I was not where I should be. I asked myself where I should be and got the disturbing reply that I didn't know. I asked myself who I was and got an even more disturbing reply, even though it was the same one. I had amnesia. I knew it immediately, although I had no memories my basic knowledge was untouched. It didn't feel like amnesia though, for some reason I believed that if I had amnesia I would know that I had memories but am unable to see them. I just felt like I had no memories. It was extremely worrying to say the least. Looking around I tried to discover where I was. My immediate location was very easy to guess, I was in a hospital room. I was also by myself, the light shining in through the window told me that it was daytime. I got up, and opened up the cupboard to look for some of my clothes (if I had any with me when I came in). I pulled out a black shirt, pants, jacket, tie and trench-coat. Although not very expensive the clothes were the things that I valued most at that time. They were *mine*. I looked down at the clip board at the base of my bed to be greeted by a mixture of good and bad news. The clip board told me that I was in the Juuban hospital. The Juuban hospital was in Japan, obvious from the writing. Out of curiosity I wondered what languages I knew and was surprised to find that I could speak Japanese, English, German, French, Indonesian, Chinese and Russian. Maybe I was a linguist? The bad news was that the clip board did not hold my name, the word 'unknown' was the last thing I wanted to see. I got changed, getting a few more surprises in the process. Checking a small inner pocket I discovered that I did not have a wallet, but had three different forms of identification. All had my photograph on them, but each had a different name, birth date, address and each were printed in a different language. Well I was possibly one of three people: Damate Okami, Conner MacCleod or Finn. I also had a sizeable amount of cash, in three different currencies: Australian dollar, Japanese yen and English pound notes. I suddenly had a wonderful idea, grabbing a pen from my jacket I turned the page on the clip board over. Clearing my mind, and trying my best not to concentrate on the task at hand, I wrote something on the paper. I looked down and was disappointed to find that what I had written was a mixture of the seven languages that I knew. I had hoped that if I wrote, without concentrating on a specific language, I would write in my native language. At least I knew that I was Caucasian, although that did not rule out the possibility of being born in Japan, China or Indonesia.
I left the hospital room, knowing only a bit more about myself that when I had first awoken.
Nobody questioned my movements as I left the hospital. For the rest of the day I wandered around the city. It was getting dark when I came to the top of a small hill. I heard the stroke of a broom from off to my left and found it to be coming from a Shinto shrine. Thinking that I could definitely use the help of the gods in my quest to discover my identity I passed under the torii (The wooden gate of a shinto temple) and began climbing the steps.
An old man was standing on the upper steps, brushing the dirt away. He looked up.
"Your too late to buy any charms gaijin." He said, in a none-too polite tone.
"I'm sorry sir, I was just wishing to pay my respects and ask the gods for some assistance." I said, looking towards the shrine.
The old man seemed taken aback by this, and stood aside saying "Everybody has that right sir, it is not my place to turn you away."
"Thank-you kind sir." I replied.
As I entered the temple proper however, a great bell sounded near the torii. I turned around to see the old man staring at me in horror, yet nobody ringing the bell. I was even more surprised when a young raven haired priestess slapped a piece of paper on my forehead.
It was about this time that I had decided that I had had enough surprises for one day, unfortunately nobody was listening. I tried to move to defend myself, but found that I was paralysed. I looked on in horror as the old man started chanting. He was asking the gods to destroy the evil demon that had invaded his temple! Did he mean me? 'But I'm not a demon' I thought to myself. A dry voice in my head told me to prepare for more surprises. The old man finished chanting, but nothing appeared to have happened. The old man and the girl looked at me in shock. Obviously I should have been a pile of dust or something in their minds. I began wondering how I could get free, and was yet again surprised to find that I knew how to. I knew that if I concentrated on an extreme feeling of freedom, that I would be free. The old man and the girl were obviously surprised to see me moving, as they did nothing to stop my attack. 'Damn them!' I thought, 'They tried to kill me'. I was not about to kill *them* however. I slapped the priestess away with one hand and concentrated on the old man. He defended himself from my punches but did not see my foot until the last second. I was surprised to see him fly away, landing unconscious about four meters from me. Turning back to the priestess I noticed that she was slumped up against the wall of the temple, quickly I checked her pulse and her breathing. I tied their hands together with some rope that I had found at the side of the temple and sat down to pray. Thankful that I hadn't hurt them. This was definitely my day for surprises.
Whilst praying I had what could only be described as an aural vision. There were a number of voices telling me not to worry, 'they' wouldn't harm me and that all would be revealed in due time.
It was about twenty minutes before I began to hear my 'prisoners' waking up. Turning around from my prayers I saw that the young girl was the first awake.
"I'm not going to untie you until you promise not to try and kill me." I told her.
The priestess looked at me strangely, possibly trying to find some evil intention in my words.
"They won't hurt me," I said, motioning around with my hand "so why are you asking them to?"
"You are a demon!" she yelled, her eyes filled with venom and loathing.
I couldn't help but laugh.
"Surely," I said, " I would know if I were a demon."
"Of course you are! You set off the alarm!" she spat at me.
This came as a shock to me, after all, I did see the bell ringing by itself.
I left, hearing her calling out to me but not paying any attention to what she was saying.
I was walking down the street, engrossed in thought, when I was surprised to see a girl running towards the shrine on the opposite side of the road. What was surprising was that she was wearing something similar to a sailor uniform, with a very short green skirt and a green bow.
I spent that night curled up underneath a tree in a park.

**Chapter 2	Wanted by two Senshi

I woke up rather early, I could not tell whether or not it was early for me but it was definitely early. Before sunrise early. I walked around town for approximately five hours, familiarising myself with the landmarks. At about 10 o clock I found myself outside an arcade and decided to go inside reasoning that I needed to have some fun. A crowd was gathered around a young sandy haired man playing a car racing game. I stood by for about ten minutes to see him beat everybody that challenged him. Many of the challengers were very good, but the young man beat every one of them convincingly. At the end of each game his aqua haired girl friend came up to him and talked to him until the next challenger sat down. After two more games I got close enough to sit down in the second seat. I looked at the young man and smiled,
"I hope I'll be more challenge than the others." I said to him.
"So do I." Was his somewhat terse reply, "You ready?"
I selected manual transmission and the expert track and sat back, foot on the accelerator.
The race started well, at the beginning of the second lap he was ahead by just a little. I gained the lead on the second straight. Going into the third lap we were neck and neck. Concentrating fully on the game I was somewhat surprised to notice two things: Firstly that there was a strange light reflecting off the screen coming from somewhere near my head, and secondly that the young man had crashed. Taking a quick look at him I noted that he had an expression of fear on his face, soon to be replaced by anger before being covered up in an attempt to look 'normal'. My attention was drawn back to the game as it beeped, telling me that I had crashed. Getting back into the race I reached top speed just as he overtook me. I finished a close second, by about .07 seconds.
"Thank-you" I told him, "You're very good."
Strangely enough all he said was "Yes", while attempting to hide the tone of anger in his voice. For some reason I had angered him and I didn't want to hang around. I left the building and decided to take a short cut to the mall through an alleyway.
"Hold Demon!" cried a voice from behind me.
Turning around to the source of the voice I discovered it to be coming from a sandy haired girl dressed in a sailor costume similar to the one I saw the night before, except that this one had a yellow bow and a blue skirt.
"Invited by a new age. I am the magnificent Sailor Uranus!" she cried, striking an odd pose.
"Also invited by a new age. I am the elegant Sailor Neptune!" came the cry from another sailor suited girl with aqua hair, green skirt and blue bow standing beside her.
All I could think of was what a wonderful time I had been having lately.
"What do you mean hold demon?" I asked.
They seemed a little surprised at this. 'good' I thought. "What makes you think I'm a demon?" I added.
"We were watching you play" said Sailor Uranus. "that young man in the arcade, and we saw the demon mark on your forehead!" Sailor Neptune was quick to add.
"Oh" was all that I managed to say.
"Don't worry demon, we'll send you back to the Negaverse" said Sailor Uranus haughtily.
"World..... Shaking!" she cried, and a great ball of energy was sent towards me.
I was fully prepared for, and expecting, death at that point. Obviously fate had some more surprises in store for me. I heard that dry voice in my head again, telling me to picture the ball of energy in my mind, and to erect a barrier around myself. I promptly did this, trusting in the knowledge that the voice's advice worked last time. I could literally feel the energy wash over me.
I did not particularly want to stick around. (If someone is trying to kill you, it is usually a good idea not to stay near them any longer than necessary). Turning the corner I found that I was at a dead end. I crouched down near some barrels and tried to make myself as un-noticeably as possible. I was ready to attack them when they came around the corner, but even though they looked straight at me a number of times they didn't see me. Boy was I relieved when they left! Having someone who wants to kill you, standing two meters away from you is a harrowing experience!
After staying there for another five minutes, I slowly walked back to the crowded streets. Remembering something that Sailor Neptune had said, I looked in a mirror in a shop window and was (Word of the Fanfic Alert ;-) surprised (/Word of the Fanfic Alert ;-) to see that I had a tattoo on my forehead, and one on each side of my head next to my eyes. Each tattoo was a vertical blue line, with a thinner line on either side. They didn't seem to be a normal tattoos though, as they appeared to be underneath the skin. Nobody seemed to be staring at me though, this led me to thinking that maybe nobody else could see them. Walking up to a complete stranger, I asked her if they could see a mark on my forehead. She just looked at me strangely said "No" and walked off. Finally making it to the mall, I shopped around a bit. I managed to find a good backpack, and a new set of clothes. I also bought a packet of oats (mixed with water it doesn't taste very nice, but is good for you. But it is food). I also changed all of my currency into Yen, having to open an account with the Bank of Japan to put all of the money in. Once that was done, I went around to all of the real-estates in the area looking for an apartment. After visiting three different real-estate agents and visiting four different apartments I came across one that suited my needs. Signing the relevant documents, and handing over the money I was told that I could move into the apartment in two days time.
I did better than the night before, I slept in a nice cozy hotel.

I spent the whole of the next day searching through the news archives in the Juuban Public Library. I was looking for a number of things: Anything to do with strange people dressed in sailor fuku, any clue as to my identity and any local history in general. I managed to find information on the former and the latter, but alas no clue as to my identity. The most interesting thing I found was the information that the 'Sailor Senshi' had been around for a while, fighting off evil 'demons'. The records started with and article detailing two 'angels' rescuing a computer cram class from a 'demon'. I gathered from reading the papers, that there were ten Senshi and that they defend Tokyo from demons and other evil things. Some of the earlier papers also mentioned a Sailor V, I didn't know whether or not she was connected as all of the other Senshi were named after planets (with the exception of Sailor Moon and Sailor Chibi-Moon). I finished up at about ten o clock and tried to go to sleep, but my sleep was prevented by my thoughts. I kept going over what happened during the first two days of my 'awakening'. I kept having visions of turning into an ugly demon with horns, cloven hooves etc... I went to sleep about ten times, waking up every half hour. The rest of the night was spent wondering how I could keep out of the way of the Senshi.

**Chapter 3	A demon Prince and a memory

Having been awake since 4 o clock, I had a good idea of what I was going to do. I spent the first half of the day shopping for furniture, essential electrical goods and food. The second half of the day was spent waiting for them to be delivered. I had just finished setting the time on the VCR when I felt a horrible pain inside my head, much worse than a migraine. I had the horrible feeling that something was happening that shouldn't be. It was more a feeling that someone was tampering with something that was mine. Part of my consciousness broke off from me and I could see the Sailor Senshi battling a monster. The dry voice in my mind told me that it was a Demon Prince, it also seemed to take great pleasure in pointing out that a demon prince was very powerful. The other part of me noticed that they were fighting in the Park where I spent my first night. Suddenly both parts were back together and before I knew what I was doing I was out the door and running as fast as I could towards the park. For some reason I was praying that I would get there on time.
I burst through the park gates, panting and looking wildly for the Senshi. I found them almost immediately. Towering over them was the Demon Prince.
"Now pitiful mortals, you will tell me where he is. I know that three of you have had contact with him." He boomed.
"Even if we know who you are talking of, what makes you think we'd just hand him over to you?" asked the Senshi of Jupiter, the one that I had seen on my first night.
"Because he is my puppet! My servant!" came the reply.
I found myself screaming, at the top of my lungs "NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"
Rushing out to stand about ten meters away from the Demon I cried out "I am *no ones* servant! And I am not anybodies puppet!"

****Flashback

I was out in a forest, life sucked. I was about to take away the one thing I owned. My life. Just as the knife touched my skin I heard a voice. It told me that I was about to do something very stupid and would I like to reconsider. It told me that it had a job for me, I was to be the body for a very important spirit. A spirit that was part Demon and part God. It told me that I obey Kami-Sama. It seemed rather hurried at this point, as if it was about to get caught for doing something that it wasn't meant to do. The last thing it said was 'Oops, gotta go. Have fun!'.

****/Flashback

The dry voice spoke once again and I gave myself to it. I found myself sending out bolts of flame from my hands, encasing myself in powerful force fields and even making lightning strike the Demon.
Just before it got sent back to Hell, the Demon cried out "No! This cannot be. You are more Demon, you cannot kill me!"
I collapsed, and was soon surrounded by concerned Senshi. All seven of them. Three Senshi were not anywhere near me.
"Sailor Moon, get away from him!" Cried out Sailor Mars.
"*It* is a Demon!" added Sailor Neptune
"We must destroy It!" finished Sailor Uranus.
From off to my left came the reply "Yeah get away from him, VIP coming through. Demons are people too, ya know! One of my best friends is part Demon! Move it or lose it!"
A young girl dressed in some kind of reddish skirt, and pinkish jacket came up to me. The Senshi cleared a path for her, if they hadn't she probably would have hit them with the mallet she was carrying, and she crouched down beside me.
"Gee, Urd is going to be so angry that I found you first." She said with an evil smile, before pouring hot water from a thermos on the ground.
I began wondering what on earth she was doing when she grabbed hold of my arm and everything went black.
