Now, here's where the idea comes in: How about taking the characters from
an anime series and casting them in a Western? (not a fusion per se, just a
cross-genre fic) Possibilities for which series to use? Well, there's the
omnipresent Ranma 1/2, and Tenchi Muyo! could probably be done pretty
easily, or maybe even BGC or Slayers. The reasons I'm not writing this
myself are that I don't consider myself familiar enough with Westerns to be
able to write this story, and my being busy with other fics and Uni work.
Anyone want to take it up?
Let's try casting some cliches:
Slayers is pretty easy to transform - Linna and her gang clean up the
small town and ride off into the sunset. Instead of spells, Linna uses
dynamite a la Clint Eastwood, Gourry is the brawler, Zelgadis is the
sharpshooter.
Ranma - Ranma is a gunfighter who has to deal with challenges from others
seeking to make their reputation or bad guys trying to take over in the
town. Kasumi is the schoolmarm, Nabiki is the town gambler (I leave it to
your imaginations as to where she keeps her derringer), and Akane is the
hot-tempered daughter of the (ineffectual) local sheriff, Soun. Ryoga is a
wagon train leader (what better?), Shampoo and Mousse are from a
matriarchal Indian tribe. Ukyo runs the restaurant/tavern, and Genma is
the colorful town character (tall tales, drunk, etc...). Happosai is a
looney miner who causes trouble whenever he comes to town. Tofu, of
course, is still the town doctor. If curses operate the same way, (you'd
need to research Indian folklore of the appropriate region for the right
background), Genma would have to turn into a bear rather than a panda.
Perhaps for variety, Shampoo could turn into a raccoon (hey, I like
raccoons - see sig).
Tenchi - Much harder to see how it would fit in Western genre. Any ideas?

Dogs are from Jupiter. Cats are from Saturn. Raccoons are from Procyon.
