      Not Quite Star-Crossed : The Tale of Ukyou and Ranma
          A Ranma 1 / 2 and Romeo and Juliet Crossover

All characters belong to Rumiko Takahashi and some others that I don't know of.
This story copyright by Adrian Wong, 1997.

C A S T:

Clan Saotome includes:

Nodoka and Genma - Nodoka is a little bit harsher yet more modern at the same time, and
Genma is a lecher as well as the scum that he is in the manga.  They live in a much bigger house
with a luxurious dojo since they are rich.

Ranma - Have never been away from home since Genma couldn't con him (and the family
fortune) away from Nodoka.  A lot more sensitive and less bullish than the original Ranma.  A
student at some all-boys school in Nerima.

Kodachi - Ranma's cousin.  A vicious girl who hates the Kuonjis with a passion.  A student at
Furinkan High.

Tofu - A servant of the family who has practically watched Ranma grew up.


Clan Kuonji includes:

Mr. and Mrs. Kuonji - Concerned parents.  Loves Ukyou very much.  Indicated to be rich as
well.

Ukyou - Still quite boyish, but doesn't cross-dress since she hadn't been through what the
manga Ukyou had been through.  Had recently been dumped by a handsome boy called Konatsu
and was feeling moody and depressed.  A student at Furinkan High.

Kurumi - Ukyou's cousin, very much like the OVA Kurumi but not quite as strong.  Also, she is
more interested in boys than food.  A student at Furinkan High.

Others:

Shampoo - Ukyou's best friend, a flirtatious Amazon fighter as in the manga.

Sister Hinako - The one who Ukyou always turns to for advice.

Akane Tendo - Engaged to Ranma by their clans.  Very much like the manga Akane.  A student
at Furinkan High.

Soun Tendo - Akane's father who pushed her to marry Ranma.

Tatewaki - Narrator at the beginning and the end.  A student at Furinkan High.

Principal - The principal of Furinkan High.

P A R T    4

[Scene shows Ukyou rapidly darting from tree to tree around the Saotome yard, looking into the
windows of the mansion as she does so.]

Ukyou: My love, if you think that I will give up our future over something as small as a clan
grudge, you obviously don't know me very well.  Kuonji Ukyou CAN move mountains to pursue
her goal, especially a goal of love . . .

[Just then, she catches sight of an opened window, in which lies a stack of books on top of a
table.] 

Ukyou: This must be it: it has got to be his room!

[She leaps over to land onto the roof tiles outside the window.  Peeking in further, she finds a lot
more notebooks and stuffs piled up on a bookstand by the wall.  There are several medical
encyclopaedias on the table ]

Ukyou [sighing in admiration]: My magnificent love, scholarly and handsome at the same time. 
Let it not be said that good-looking people are stupid.       

[She then catches a shadow of a man entering the dimly lit room, and her eyes lit up.]

Ukyou: Oh, here he is!  My gallant love, you whose radiance can shame even that of the sun,
whose eyes can make crystals look dim, [She blushes a bit] whose tongue can make honey taste
bitter. . .  
   
[The man continues to move toward the window.]

Ukyou <anxious but nervous as she cowers right under the window>: Oh, come to me, my love. 
Kiss me, and tell me that not all is lost, that we can still shatter this meaningless barrier between
us-

[The man abruptly leans out the window and looks around.]

Tofu: Ranma-kun!  Are you sneaking around the roofs again?! 

[Looking around, he sees no one. Sighing quizzically, he closes up the windows of HIS room,
totally unaware of the fact that Ukyou was hanging to the edge of the roof tiles with only her
fingertips.]

Ukyou [sweats] : Duh . . .

[Just then, she spots another figure walking through the mini-forest of sakura trees up to the
shining koi-pond.  Immediately recognizing his pigtail, Ukyou drops soundlessly off the roof and
secretly follows him.  Meanwhile, Ranma knees down beside the koi pond as he stares at the
lazy kois.]

Ranma: Ukyou, Ukyou . . .why MUST she be KUONJI Ukyou?

[Ukyou hides behind a tree that is right behind him and silently unloads her giant spatula to the
ground.]

Ranma: I mean, if she is TENDO Ukyou, we could have been married within weeks.  And now .
. . [his voice trails off]

[Ukyou frowns with nervousness.]

Ranma [splashes the water a bit]: Hey, but there is NO way that I'm going to see her as an
enemy.  I mean, C'mon!  People don't choose what families that they're born into.  It' not her
fault that she's born a Kuonji . . . no more than that it's MY fault to be born a Saotome.  Fate put
us where we are.  Besides, clan wars sounds so UTTERLY stupid nowadays.   Not that they
aren't stupid before, but they are especially so in the 90's.

[Ukyou smiles with relieve at hearing that.]

Ranma [a look of longing on his face]: A beauty by any other surname, will look just as pleasing. 
 Never before have I seen a girl so dazzling in her casualness.  The way she acts, the way she
moves . . .  How can ANYONE be so utterly beautiful, yet doesn't even seem to realize how
beautiful she really is?  With her, there's no snottiness, [he laughs a bit] no pretentious giggling,
that's for sure . . . [He smiles fondly]  no nothing that can turn a guy off.  I mean, she's natural
be her aggressive or shy!   To be able to carry herself like that despite her looks . . . it's almost a
God given talent.

[Ukyou's smile widens.]

Ranma [his expression clouds up]:  Mom and Pop seems determined to have me marry that
Akane girl . . . But how can I possibly settle for a mere, undistinctive girl after discovering my
rare, strikingly natural love?  It will be like settling for a life of tap-water drinking after tasting
top quality wine: not possible.

[Ukyou blushes as she quietly sneaks up behind him.]

Ranma [standing up and scratching his chin]: If only I can pull off an elopement right under
Mom and Pop's noses, then  maybe there's still a chance for me and my love to be together.
Heh, if both of us are willing to work, we can even manage to pay our way through high school
and college . . .    

Ukyou [thinking with a soaring heart] <He DOES love me!>

Ranma [laughs sadly]: This will probably go against every expectation that they have in stored
for me.   But hey, isn't ME, not them, who has to spent the rest of life together with my wife? 
Then wouldn't it only be fair for ME to choose who I want to spent it with?  Besides, if they
have the guts to name me RANMA (wild horse), then they should probably know that I'm no
domestic stallion to be used as a breeding tool for the clan.  Now, if only Ukyou is willing to
elope . . . not a easily thing considering how rich the Kuonjis are . . .

Ukyou [hugs him from behind]: I'm as willing as a girl can ever be!

Ranma [shoots up in shock]: YAHHH!!!!!!!!

[With that, the two of them lands in the koi pound with a splash.  Ranma seems to be choking a
bit under the water, and Ukyou immediately seals her mouth to his, "sharing" the air in her lungs
with him.  The two stays under the water like this as a school of small, illuminated silver
angelfish swims leisurely past them.  Eventually, the air is completely used up, and the couple
slowly rises by to the surface.]

Ranma [as he recovers his breath]: Why are you here?!  

Ukyou [smiling as she pushes her now free flowing wet hair off her face]: For you, what else?

Ranma: Ukyou . . .

Ukyou : RAN-ma . . .

[Ranma blushes at the loud RAN (wild).]

Ukyou [turning serious]: Defying an arranged engagement is a pretty big deal, are you SURE
that you are REALLY willing to do so for me?  I know you've got  'wild' in your name . . . [She
laughs a bit] Sorry, shouldn't joke about that.  But really,  are you SURE that you can sacrifice
your honour for me without regret?

Ranma [laughs a bit]: What kind of  'sacrifice' will that be, considering that the reward is a
lifetime with you?  And what kind of honour is that if it forces two unwilling people to be
trapped together?

Ukyou: Oh, Ranma!  You flatters me so . . . [She seems troubled] but . . .

Ranma [looks concerned]: What's the matter?

Ukyou: I won't always be as young as I am now . . .  No flower can stay in full bloom forever.  I
know you love me now because you think that I'm good looking, but when I get older, and looks
it too . . . will you still love me?

Ranma [sighs with relief]: Hey, if all that I want is a good looking girl, I would have chosen
Akane and saves myself a lot of pain.  It's the fact that I can talk to you, and that you'd listen,
that draws me to you.  No other girl can give me that.

Ukyou [with gratitude in her teary eyes]: You flatterer, you.

Ranma [smiles mischievously]: Hey, I can't flatter you unless there is basis for my flattery. 

Ukyou [laughs]: Just stop flattering me then and kiss me instead!

[She aggressively presses her lips to him, and the two sinks under the water again.  The kois and
the tropical fish are the only witnesses to their passionate embrace under the water.  Slowly, they
rises back up to the surface again.]

Ukyou [looking at him with longing eyes as she pulls away from the kiss]:  I wish I could stay
here for ever, but I can't.  I've got to go.

Ranma [leans over to kiss her neck]: Wait, my precious Ukyou.  Will you leave me so
unsatisfied?

Ukyou [blinks]: Unsatisfied?

Ranma: I still LONG to give you something that you will never forget.

Ukyou [blushes]: Whoa, Ranma . . . I am not exactly prepared for this yet.

Ranma [now kissing her earlobe]: You seems to be asking for it in the party . . .

Ukyou [blushes even more]: But I haven't got protection . . .

Ranma [looks into her eyes with mock innocent]: But what protection will you need against an
engagement ring?

Ukyou [looking embarrassed and delighted at the same time]: You . . . you devil, you lead me
on!! 

[With that, she starts tickling him, which he counters as he laughs.  The two then proceed
splashes around in the water like children, sending goldfishes and kois jumping all around them. 
Hearing the commotion from the yard, Tofu opens his window, and almost jumps out of his skin
at what he sees.] 

Tofu [shouting]: Ranma-kun!!

[Ukyou immediately hides behind the bushes by the edge of the pond as Ranma responds with a
blushing face.]

Ranma [shouts back up]: I'm coming right up, good servant!

Tofu [as he turns away the window.]: I'm coming right down for you!

[Ranma and Ukyou immediately gets out of the water.  Ukyou goes to retain her giant spatula
and straps it onto her back.  She then turns to Ranma with a look of longing.]

Ukyou: Well . . . guess the engagement ring will have to wait.

Ranma: But I can't let my love go empty-handed now, can I?  

[As Ukyou blinks, he pulls off the "string" tying up his wet pigtail, revealing it to be a silver-coloured band with a small diamond on it.  Ukyou looks at it in awe as it is being put onto her
finger.]

Ranma: It isn't much, but till we can formally get married-

Tofu's voice [from inside the mansion]: Ranma-kun!

[Ranma immediately pulls Ukyou behind a thick bush.  Ukyou touches the diamond, then looks
back at him with a conspiratory glint in her dark eyes.]

Ukyou: Are you free tomorrow?

Ranma: I'll have to be at school till noon.

Ukyou: Tell you what, I know someone who can arrange a quick wedding for us. 

Ranma [looks excited]: REALLY?!

Ukyou [nods]: Really.  As soon as I can get it arranged, the two of us can get married for real.   
And if our parents objects to us even after the wedding, we run away together! 

Ranma [shakes his head in amazement]: Holy, my girl is clever!

Tofu's voice [from inside the mansion]: Ranma-kun!

Ranma [yells back]: Stay where you are, Tofu!  I'm coming!

Ukyou: I REALLY got to go now. [She leans close to him and speaks in a husky voice] Farewell,
RanCHAN.

Ranma [his eyes melting]: A thousand Goodnights, UCCHAN.  

Ukyou [holds up her right hand]: When we meet again, this diamond band shall be replaced by a
REAL ring . . . in the cathedral.

Ranma: I'm counting on it, my beauty with utmost cleverness.

[Ukyou gives him a butterfly kiss, then leaps away and off the Saotome yard.  Ranma stares after
her and smiles with a longing look on his face.]

Ranma [as he runs a hand through his wet locks]: Parting is such sweet sorrow that we have to
say goodnight and wait till tomorrow.  If only this moment can last a little longer-

Genma [shouting from a second story window]: RANMAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  HOW
MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU *NOT* TO SWIM IN THE KOI POND ? ! ? ! ? ! ?
! ? ! ? ! ? ! ? ! ? ! ?  

[Ranma groans as the romantic atmosphere of the moment is shattered at once.]
