Of course Ranma's case in this story suggests that his amnesia is
psychological. He can't remember because he doesn't want to remember.
Traumatic amnesia would not leave him with his skills and reasoning
power intact. Now, this could be because the curse wants to have it's
day and is keeping him from remembering. However it's also possible
that the cloyingly sweet homelife with Akane the berserk
super-homemaker, is getting on Ranma's nerves more than he will admit,
enough that he wants an escape that no one can blame him for, and so
he has retreated from conscious awareness of his responsibilities.
After all, in his new life he is far more free, and exploring aspects
of his sexuality that were previously out of the question.

Good stuff. Of course, given Ranma's peculiar life, I don't know that he
would have a standard reaction to minor brain damage. I think your
suggestion of a subconscious desire to be "Hitomi" rather than "Ranma" has
some interesting possibilities. Also, an overlaid personality is not new
to Ranma (e.g. Pretty Womanhood or his neko-ken state).
