Heh.  I think you've pretty much answered your own question here. 
While your boyfriend may not like Ranma, he evidently really likes Akane. 
I imagine most people on the FFML have characters they don't like, but
they likewise love some of the characters.  Otherwise, I doubt they'd
read or watch Ranma, much less write fanfics about it.  (also, perhaps, in
fanfics, one can do evil things to the characters one despises...)
