Here's something I wrote today. Actually this piece started its life
as a response to the 1-hour challenge but then I had to leave before I
had time to write it, so it comes out now. The actual writing took a little
more than hour and it took a few hours more to rewatch Bastard!! so I got
the spell chants.

Wizards on Vacation.

Sweat dropped off Lina Inverse's chin. It was partly from the
oppressive heat, but mostly from fear. She knew she was facing a
superior opponent and if it came to a fight she would need all her
guile to win it, but wouldn't give up. Not now when she had come
this far. "Back off, Dark Schneider. I was here first, it's mine."

The tall sorcerer smirked and flipped an errant strand of his sweaty
white hair off his face. "You back off, brat. I don't give a shit if you
were here first. I am gonna take it and you can either give it to me
or be burned crisp."

Lina narrowed her eyes. "Burned to crisp? You and what army old
man?" She started gathering magical energies between her hands.

"Old man?" Dark Schneider sneered. "I ain't no old man! I'm Dark
Schneider! The smart, handsome, slender and powerful master
mage!"

Inwardly Lina smirked, but didn't let it show. He had bought it, hook,
like and sinker. "Then you're man enough to step outside to decide
this pops?"

"So sure about yourself, aren't you, brat. Follow me then!"

The two wizards trooped out of the house, past the sleeping Gourry,
who was in the shady part of the porch, the day's paper laid over
his face, and the sun-bathing Arshes Nei, who was reading the
latest issue of Vogue, and to the lawn that spread before the
building.

Arshes lifted her face for a moment to look at the two, as they
faced each other in the field before the house. She shook her head
and turned back to her reading.
"I wonder what it is this time, Darshu." She said to herself. "And why
Inverse is fighting you."

For a few moments the two mages stood there, unmoving under
the blazing sun. It was extremely hot, not a cloud in the sky and no
wind. Both magic-users were sweating.

Lina was the first to break the silence. "Having second thoughts old
man? You can still back off." She said, letting a smirk spread to her
face.

"No. Just letting you to have the last chance to change your mind.
But since you seem to want a lesson... SLAYART-SLAYART-
SKRON. Lightning and darkness... Val Volt!"

Lina easily dodged the spell by a simple jump. "Missed me old man
and now it's my turn! FLARE..." A flaming bow and several arrows
materialised in the young sorceress' hands. "...ARROW!"
Completing the spell she let the flaming missiles shoot towards the
older man. Dark Schneider didn't even bother to dodge. He just
stood there as Lina spell shattered against his shields.

"Bwahahahah! Stupid brat! You don't stand a chance! DAMNED!"

This time Lina wasn't quite fast enough. She was caught at the
edge of the spell and thrown to the ground. "Hmpf! You were lucky,
gramps! FIREBALL!" The ball of flame was easily swatted aside by
Dark Schneider. The white-haired mage looked contemptuously at
Lina as she brushed off the dust from her clothes.

"Like I said brat, you don't stand a chance. High-to-low! Blow this
bastard away... Eat this! ANTHEM!"

This time Lina was ready and easily jumped over the spell. "Having
trouble with your aim, old man?" She said, taunting.

"Oh, shut up, kiddo! SODOM!"

Again Lina dodged the spell easily and while still in mid-air she
casted her own. "FIREBALL!" While Lina's spell was still in mid-air
Dark Schneider fire off his own.

"DAMNED!"

The spells collided, destroying each other. Before the dust had
settled Dark Schneider was already preparing to cast another one.
"I've played enough with you brat. It's time I end this! ZARZARD-
ZARZARD-SKRON YONO-SUKU. In the darkness of Hell, the fire
of Hell. Be my sword and destroy my enemy..."

For a second Lina's eyes grew wide in fear, before they narrowed in
anger. It seemed she her plan had worked a little too well. With a
shout of "RAY WING!" the orange-haired sorceress soared up to
air.

"VENOM!" Below Lina a fiery portal opened to the ground, but it
had a little effect on the airborne girl. "You ain't getting away that
way, brat!" Schneider shouted "BRAI-BRAIN DEAD. Follow the
ground's pledge. Come from the land of Avaton. Gejana's
exploding fire. Burn everything..."

In the air Lina smirked and drew out her throwing knife. "You won't
be getting me that way, 'Darshu'. Shadow Grab!" While the white-
haired sorcerer was still chanting the last words of his spell, Lina's
knife embedded itself to his shadow.

Shouting "EXODUS!!!" Dark Schneider shot up to the air, at least
for a meter and a half, before his ascent was stopped by the knife
that kept his shadow in place. For a few moments Schneider
struggled forward, and for a second it seemed like he would get
loose, before the Exodus reached it's conclusion and there was a
huge explosion. Dark Schneider fell down to his face.

Meanwhile Lina had glided down, her eyes closed in concentration
and her fingers pressed against both temples. Maintaining both Ray
Wing and Shadow Grab would have taken too much out of her, so
she had abandoned her flight spell. When the Exodus ended she
opened her eyes, and smirked at the sprawled sorcerer. "Have you
had enough, old man? Or do I have beat you up more?"

Slowly, carefully Dark Schneider picked himself up. He looked
behind him, saw the knife, and with a violent gesture sent it flying to
the horizon. Then he turned his red gaze at Lina who swallowed
unconsciously. "I ain't... no old... man! You...BRAT! KAIZARD
ALZARD KISUKU..."

For a second Lina was frozen, before starting her own spell.
"Darkness beyond twilight, crimson beyond blood that flows buried
in the flow of time..." She chanted.

By the house Arshes Nei and Zelgadis, who had been drawn
outside by the sounds of battle, looked at each other. The sleepy
Gourry just stared at the combatants, blinking. "Darshu's using the
Hallo-ween..." Arshes Nei began

"...and that's the Dragon Slave. What the hell are those two fighting
for?" Zelgadis concluded her thoughts.

"... The Thundergod and wind...."

"... In thy great name I pledge myself..."

"This." a calm female voice said behind Arshes and Zel. The two
wizards turned around to look at Karla.

"That?" An incredulous Zelgadis asked.

"It's the last in the house and this is a hot day." The Grey Witch
calmly answered.

"Umm... Are you sure that is wise?" Arshes Nei asked. "They might
be a little angry when they find out."

"A sage of hades. With these two keys..."

"... to darkness. And all the fools who stand in our way..."

"Every now and then it's nice to live dangerously." Karla answered
smiling. "And I doubt they'll spot it now."

"... open the gates of hell..." Dark Schneider was ready to release
the destructive spell when he spotted something horrible.

"...shall be destroyed by the power you and I posses..." Lina just
finished her chant when she realised what Karla was holding.

"KAAAAAARRRRRLLLAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!" Two very angry voices
ringed out and the foursome at the House turned to look at Lina and
Dark Schneider who were just about to shoot their spells at Karla.

"Oh shit. Take cover!!!"

"HALLO-WEEN!"

"DRAAAAAAAAGOOOOON SLAAAAAVEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

KA-BADA-BAROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
MMMMMM!

When the smoke cleared it became obvious that all that was left of
the house was wreckage. Three of the four who had been standing
in front of the house were laying here and there, burned, blackened
and smoking. Karla was standing in the shade of a near-by tree,
watching the scene before her with amusement. For a while nothing
moved. Then a hand shot pushed some planks out of the way and
Yoko, wearing very little, stood up. She looked mightily pissed off.

"Luche-kun!!!! What the hell did you think you were doing!!!"

Dark Schneider suddenly looked very sheepish. "Umm... Ehh...
Yoko-san... I'm sorry..."

"Sorry!? You say you are sorry!" The enraged redhead stormed
towards the six-foot-tall mage, who didn't look that tall at the
moment. "I'm almost blown to bits and all you can say is 'I'm
sorry'!?!? Why you no-good..."

Lina snickered the scene. Her good mood was banished, though,
when a blue hand landed on her shoulder. Lina turned around to
look at Zelgadis.
"Was that necessary, Lina? What do you think the insurance
company is going to say?"

"Err..." Lina scratched the back of her head. "Sorry about this Zel..."
She tried to find something to justify her actions. "But it WAS the
last ice-cream in the house!!"

end.

afterword.
You are probably wondering what the hell is going on. I'll tell you;
three the most powerful wizards of anime decided to take a little vacation
together, rented a little house in a small, peaceful, out-of-the-way
dimension and invited all their friends there. ^_^

No, I'm not planning to continue this. ^_^
