Chapter 7, Section B: Pointless Loss: The Tale of the Magic
Knights

Hmm. "Pointless" may be right...

Emeraude fell to her knees and began to sob. "What--what have I
done? What...I almost did grave harm to this world...I've been
foolish..."
Zagato knelt beside her and embraced her. "It is alright, my love.
"
  "So, it's over?" Umi asked.
Emeraude looked up, and nodded. "Thank you, Magic Knights. Thank
you. You have truly saved Cephiro."
Umi frowned. "Then send us back to our world."
Emeraude was saddened. "Yes, of course...I apologize for
everything I have put you through..."
Umi didn't answer, except to scowl. Fuu did not look particularly
pleased either.

Nor I, I have to admit. I don't know much about MKR, besides the bits in
the Animerica article a few months back. (There are starting to be enough
MKR references cropping up that I suppose I really need to learn some
more about it. <g>) Was the original end in the story this abrupt? The
'it was all essentially for nothing' ending is really hard for me to
swallow without quite a bit of preparation, so I felt somewhat cheated at
this point in the story.

>From the Scriviner:
Actually the ending to the first season of Magical Knight Rayearth was
even more abrupt. The entire point of their struggle in the original
series was to free Emeraude. By killing her. They didn't realize that
until it was way too late...
