THE LONGEST STEPS

Never will I climb those steps again,
  There were one hundred, I wished for more,
    My legs carried me slowly, Injured by my heart,

I climbed to the top and saw you playing there,
  Slowly I called out your name,
    I prepared to murder a part of your soul,
      And as I spoke a saw the light in your eyes die,

For that, I will never forgive myself,
  Twice in one day my heart fell to pieces,
    More than can ever be recovered or replaced,

Those were the longest steps I ever took,
  Never will I take them again.
