In Word 95 and Word 97, there is an option to save the file as "Text
with Line Breaks".  That will insert the line breaks you're looking for.
It's what I use all the time.

In Word 95/97 don't forget to turn off the auto-correct options for the
"smart quotes". It's under Tools, autocorrect, autoformat as you type
(word97). There are other auto correct options listed there that you'll
want to review.

Why? 'cuz the quote characters come out as black bloxes or something even
more evil. 'Sides, it's a bother when reading a good story and coming upon
a black box that should be ... or " or =.
